Copa America would be a huge eye opener for most. CONCACAF has its issues in some venues but that pales in magnitude with the fan intensity for Copa America and Libertadores.

Back to Canada, probably like most of us, the team didn’t think that the opening 35 minutes and the majority of the rest of the game was real against Belgium, and they were bracing for the onslaught (like Croatia) that never came. Had the games flipped on the schedule we’d be at 3 points at least right now.

Regarding Herdman, watch some of the interviews. He pulled out “England is boring” in advance of NZ playing ENG in the WWC 15 years or so ago. He motivates his players in that sort of manner internally and then backs it up publicly to further solidify that message with the players.

He also said that he couldn’t coach the Canadian women any further up the rankings, because the resources to go from where they were as #4 or 5 in the World to top #2 was significant and something this country doesn’t have.

As mentioned I feel the same will go on here. He’s gone all in with this group of players to reach this goal by whatever motivation and means necessary to his own detriment health wise, mentally, and trying to do thet again, fully aware of the dysfunctional association who are his bosses, it’s just not going to be the same…and that’s before taking into consideration he likely has many lucrative offers to start a new challenge, one’s that may be in shambles like our Men and Women’s teams were, but now with experience he has, and additional resources he never had here, it’s a different but probably more comfortable challenge.

We will see.

A joint Copa America with CONCACAF and CONMEBOL makes too much sense to me, but I get there are pockets that need to be filled which will be a barrier. I'd like to think the push to keep growing in the US and the money that represents would be enough to entice CONMEBOL, and the exposure to a higher level of competition more regularly and the big game potential would be enough for CONCACAF to make some concessions to make it happen.

WC qualifying was great, but big games against Mexico and the US can only go so far in riding the momentum. More opportunities for people to watch the team play different and bigger opponents is how the network and corporate buy in can continue.

S.

S is the difference.

I’ve said it before many times: Copa Americas instead is Copa America.

Get a legitimate qualifying cycle going like the Euro and all of a sudden we have a legitimate tournament that rivals the Euro, not some boring Gold Cup no one gives a #### about. Rotate hosts: Brazil, USA, Argentina, Mexico, etc.

Literally benefits everyone involved.

The US won't do it unless they host every time. End of story.

The South Americans want US money but they don't want to lose hosting rights or the tradition.

Concacaf and conmebol can never merge, the distances are too great.

What a bunch of crap this article is. The overreaction to the Croatia loss has been embarrassing to say the least and this is just the cherry on top.

That article is gross. I can’t believe anybody could be thinking that after all this.

Flyby hot takes by random CBC journalists is nothing new.
Though "the national team isn't a private enterprise, it's a public trust" is ironic and maybe said journalist should investigate that topic and have a chat with the CSA and CSB,, rather then crap on a humble talented kid.

Herdman isn’t going anywhere before 2026. He’s deeply competitive hasn’t completed his goals for the program. He’s 4 years ahead of schedule from the fans’ perspective. that’s all

He missed a penalty, that's all. I think Larin is the regular penalty taker but he didn't start. Outside of that, the players decide and Davies should be commended for taking the ball in such a big situation, 10 minutes into the first match against a power. You want to see leaders lead. He could have easily hid behind someone else.

Bang on from Sid Seixiero. He's one of the few in the media who's actually followed this national team regardless of how good or poor they were.

What if a Championship club or even an EPL club comes calling?

This is the best. Pathetic losers, all over them, like you're owed something. SId is spot on, no one really cares about soccer except every 4 years, he owes us nothing.

That is awesome. I hope this clip goes viral and the hack at the CBC gets embarrassed.

That CBC article is infuriating.
The idiot is getting what he wanted, attention and clicks. What a horrible shame we pay the wages of morons like that.

The CBC article is clickbait garbage... but also makes a point. The highest profile players should be made available to the media at the WC.

But he did do his required media availability, the article quotes things that he said to the media, but then goes on to criticize him for not being available to the media and providing quotes. He did what was required, but didn't do extra.

To be honest, this is probably a CSA decision to keep things tight anyway. I won't even argue that it is the correct decision because everything that the CSA does is backwards. But dumping on Davies for it because he's the highest profile player? Lazy journalism.
