It'd be one thing if there wasn't already an empty seat.

Imagine if the NDP did this exact thing. We'd be hearing about it for the next 20 years.

I look forward to the posters decrying this move to a dictatorship police state....

So Kenney is out. I guess he didn’t believe in his democratic principles strongly enough to stick around and go on the record with a vote against this act. What a ####ing coward.

If the principles of a democracy are going to be subverted, it will be done so by a United Conservative Party all voting in favor, otherwise all his hard work in subverting the party's own democratic process would have been for nothing.

Actually, don’t write your MLA. I don’t want any reasonable voices convincing Smith to tone it down for the next few months. Let everyone see what a wingnut she really is, so she can face a resounding defeat in the next election.

I don't think "resounding defeat" is a sure thing. Too many morons in rural Alberta who can't acknowledge reality. And many parts of Calgary could go either way. I know it's pretty unbelievable someone could actually support this clown, but humanity has let me down plenty.

Smart money is on Notley I think, but it is Alberta. Smith’s message will resonate with many Albertans.

Just like Alison Redford, Kenney will be remembered as an unbelievably unpopular premier of the province.

Smith is doing her best in an attempt to buy votes before the spring election and might just pull it off.

I'm assuming that Kenney probably does not like Smith and does not see eye to eye with her regarding policy and politics. It wouldn't change any opinions of him but it would be awesome to see him express his honest opinion on what is going on right now.

I think he did. He was quite outspoken against the sovereignty and it definitely looks like a protest resignation to me since it seemed to happen minutes after the act was introduced.

The fact that Jason F'n Kenney looks like the "moderate conservative" really shows how far right they have gone.

Love this city and province (well except for Edmonton) but my God does it attract some of the most questionable people out there. Anybody supporting this is a complete moron (I’m guessing Oilers fans). The rest of the country must be shaking their head at us.

I hate to break it to you, but it's not Oilers fans who are supporting this nonsense. Edmonton is pretty solidly NDP territory. It's rural Alberta and Calgary where the UCP has the most support. I think rural Alberta is a lost cause in the next election, so it's up to voters in Calgary to do the right thing and send Smith and the UCP packing. I'm very skeptical that will actually happen.

Edit: in almost all respects, E=NG, but this is the rare exception.

I know plenty of fellow Flames fans who are stupid enough to vote for UCP no matter how bad they get.
