I'm sure he's walking at the end of the year, unless the team shows him that he can be a fit here.

Sutter talks about the real fans wanting honesty and hard work and sends out Lewis, Ritchie, Lewis and Rooney while the hard work and honesty sit and rot in the minors.

Kubalik has 21 point in 20 games this year. Exactly what the Flames need.

Since we're throwing our line ups/ lines, need some fresh air and life into the line up, Don't know what other option there is to get Mangiapane going?
 Huberdeau- Lindholm- Mangiapane
 Pelletier- Kadri- Toffoli
 Ruzicka- Backlund- Phillips
 Coleman- Lewis- Dube

Ritchie, Rooney, Lucic all useless at this point, enjoy the popcorn.

There's no way it's not Sutter. Phillips is almost 25 years old. Guaranteed Sutter thinks he's too small etc. He could be right but you'll never know until you try.

And then Martin St. Louis 5'8 and Marc Savard 5'10 never got enough of a chance.

This has a motor on every line, mixes up the skill sets to be complementary rather than overlapping and has new blood throughout the whole top 9, it's good looking. Maybe swap Dube and Lewis as Dube seems to do better when centering a line.

You've gotta think Tre likes the kid. This is the second extension he got. First was moving from $70k to $80k, and this past summer he moved from $80k to $140k. AHL salaries.
Though I'm not sure if this is common for the AHL; TheScorpion would probably know better.

That's a pretty standard jump for an RFA-aged player with his production. Solid raise, for sure.

I don’t believe anyone is even remotely implying that. He could though prove to be (and grow to be) a solid middle six option if given the chance.

It’s not that anyone from the minors is going to step in and start doing a ppg from the get go. It’s just that these fourth liners are crap here and Mangiapane and Dube are not much better and there is no reason to keep running them out with no repercussions for their bad play. Also sends a bad signal that their young players get no fair shot to play.

I guess where I’m at with the Phillips debate is really the following points
 - Players like Kylington, Andersson, Mangiapane and Dube have all busted the door down and pushed for full time roles at the NHL level and Phillips is demonstrating a similar AHL resume as all of them

 - He fulfills an organizational need as a RW who is best slotted in a mid to top 6 role and at a low caphit with literally no risk to the organization; as Scorp pointed out they basically have a free 9 game cup of coffee stint to see what he is at the NHL level

 - He’s proven literally every level wrong about his size and the AHL coaching staff, specifically Mitch Love, speaks volumes of his work ethic, leadership and skillset on a routine basis, I remember Conroy gushing about this guy in his draft +2 year, he’s a Calgary kid to boot… why not give him a look?

I can’t think of a good reason not to give Phillips a look and I can think of innumerable reasons of why they should be giving him a look and I’ll be banging that drum until the day it hopefully happens.

How often do we play an injury riddled team with a good 1/3 of the lineup being their AHL team. We don't blow them out of the water, I suspect the same holds true for other teams. So if these teams can pull up their farm kids and do all right and our top end farm kids are leading the farm league, it only stands to reason we should profit from the move.
