Lol. I don't give a care about likes. Take my comments for face value for all I care. In a forum about a topic, sharing information I have been told.
And for the record, I liked JG on the flames, and still appreciate what he did and how he played. I'm not one to boo the guy either when he comes back. He made his decision, as anybody in that position is allowed to do.

Honestly, I think it's because of the Hopestreet.ca commercials as he couldn't sing in tune and was bullied online for it. He couldn't stand the shame anymore, and had to leave.

Can we please stop with any kind of drug rumors on here? Impossible to verify and if if we could it's a brutal look for the site. Let's just stick to hockey talk.

Agreed. Let's focus on the substances he has openly admitted to taking.
I heard a rumour that Gaudreau signed in Columbus because he found a supplier there who can get him the rare and potent black Skittles.
(Hey, it's no dumber than a lot of the takes in this thread.)

I just think your drug comments about JG were inappropriate.
I's unneeded, especially when you're throwing it out there and not giving a crap about what you're saying.
It's not just "sharing information" when you're gossiping like that and then telling us you don't care if anyone believes you and will not verify.

I really hate bumping this tire fire of a thread, but a didn't know where else to share this.

A podcast came out with Guy and Jane Gaudreau on an episode. Apparently they talk about the trade in the last 10-15 minutes although I'm not in a place where I can listen as of yet, and it seems they thought Johnny was signing in Calgary up until the day before free agency. Probably worth a listen.

Not surprised to hear to hear how confused and messed up Johnny was. Indicates to me how much he loved playing in Calgary.

Man...I said it on Day 1 and I maintain it to this day.
His Agent screwed this up badly. He figured that he has the #1 Free Agent on the market and that they could write their own ticket to anywhere and he didnt do any due diligence and moreover, he did not prepare his client.
The entire Saga reeks of panic which tells me that his agent absolutely dropped this ball.
Honestly. An hour of honest conversation and a few beers and Johnny and his agent are on the same page.
His agent dun goofed hard.

Gaudreau to Columbus (7 x $9.75 million)
Guy says that if Treliving offered Johnny a contract last off season even close to what he was offering him this off season Johnny would have been staying in Calgary.
He said there was a contract offer, but it was a joke and really embarrassing for Johnny.
Yikes, sounds like Treliving tried to get him cheap based off of his down year.
They also confirmed they were still talking to Calgary about a 7 year deal the next day.

So...his Manager initiated with an a low offer based on current data and is reviewed poorly in hindsight?
Surely such injustices never occur!
Who cares? $10.5x8 was on the table.

You have to know your own player. Did the organization have a perspective on why he had the down years followed by a career season? I’ve never been comfortable that the club’s offers to Gaudreau changed so radically from one off season to the next. And did they over correct in signing Huberdeau instantly?

Doesn't that go without saying? Coming off two down seasons where he finished 48th and 31st in scoring, no kidding he'd take a deal that would make him the 8th-highest-paid player in hockey.

Yeah, this is a good take. I can understand trying to lock a player in on a value contract after a down year but when the player is of Johnny’s quality and he is coming off a down year, you can’t drive the player down too hard. What reason would he have for signing that contract at that stage?
Painful to hear that a deal could have been done a year before because that’s when the deal should have been done. This isn’t a market that can be cavalier with its asset base. We don’t get players lining up to take great deals because they get to live in the prairies - it just doesn’t happen. The plan all along should have been to sign him in 2021, or to trade him before the season started in October 2021.
I’ll be cheering Johnny on when he comes back to town.

My guess is he was offered like $7M the previous offseason - which based on the two prior years and other contracts in the pandemic would have been fair.
