Start the year by winning the ATP Cup, end the year by winning the Davis Cup. Canadian tennis baby!

I cried 3 times during the tennis season this year......

1) When Nadal won the AO
2) When Federer retired
3) Today

After Felix lost badly to Casper Ruud at the Rogers Cup and then Jack Draper at the US Open, he looked like a guy that had completely lost the script. Winning the Laver Cup alongside Team World (beating Djokovic in the process) appeared to be the tonic he needed. What a run of tennis to end 2022 culminating in this Davis Cup victory today.

Of course, the haters (mainly on tennis twitter) will point to the fact that he has yet to win an outdoor tourney. He'll check that box in 2023.

Congrats to Canada and all tennis fans in the country. I remember how big a deal it was back when we won a group stage way back when (92?) when Nestor beat Edberg.

Yup, even more recently in 2011, I remember watching a young Milos and Vasek taking on Israel and a hostile crowd in an attempt to make the Davis Cup World Group. The result earlier today shows the investment in time/money and quality coaching that Tennis Canada has made. It's a great time to be a tennis fan in Canada.

Remember Philip Bester? Canada came back from 0-2 down in Ecuador to even get to Israel!

I still miss the old Davis Cup format.

That's Alexis Galarneau, he and Felix are good friends as they grew up in the same region of Quebec and played/competed against each other from an early age. Good article from last year is below.
