Carolina tied for 8th in the East. Does this qualify as another difficult game for the strength of schedule argument?
I'd assume the entire schedule would update daily (into the past) so a team like Buffalo would have been considered a tough team early, but now with their skid would decrease the difficulty in the Flames past.
So Carolina moderate.
Dom's model at the Athletic uses his projected points for the season and doesn't change though.

Ive always followed the Sagarin model (no idea if it any better or worse than others tbh) and they have the Flames with the 2nd most difficult schedule thus far.
I want to see the boys score at least 3 goals. Hopefully they remember to cut to the net without the puck this game. Also, I understand that our system requires a forward covering when a D activates, but the offense remains 3 on 5 and struggles as a result. Finally, stopping just after entering the offensive zone with speed, and faking shots help generate different/open looks… so let’s use that.
Out shopping and find myself in a store looking at Jerseys and notice they have a rack of 90% off jerseys at the back, it's as expected mostly Oilers, Vancouver, Toronto and some Carolina.
As I'm looking at the clearance Jerseys and thinking to myself how much these teams have in common with UPS, you know unreliable, never deliver, I notice a lady and her young son take a Carolina jersey off the rack.
Now I don't usually just randomly talk to people but I felt it was important to let her know that all the Jerseys on this rack, Oilers, Canucks, Leafs, Hurricanes these were all clearly choking hazards.
She was very appreciative of the warning and went to put the jersey back but I explained that they are still worth buying just not for your son, so I told her about how I bought one and put it on my shopvac and wow does it ever suck hard now.

This isn't the NFL or college football. Everyone plays everyone strength of schedule doesn't matter it's just a excuse for a team performing poorly
How is "everybody plays everybody" relevant 20 games in?
NFL is 17 games...that's why the strength of schedule matters...and roughly the amount of games in we are.
Your post makes zero sense
Flames haven't played one game against the bottom 3 teams in their own division

It matters because that's been your excuse for the poor start that we are playing hard teams.
We won't be playing bottom 3 teams in the playoffs if qualify. If we can't beat the good teams now and squeak in its going to be a waste of 8 days for this team.

Your argument still made zero sense...strength of schedule matters thus far as they haven't played many games like the NFL.
Flames are one game above .500 with the hardest strength of schedule, seems reasonable to assume they will be better than that with the easiest strength of schedule after December.
Its not an excuse, just reality...if you are going to compare standings and numbers schedule matters especially early.
after 82 you are right it doesn't, but for now its a factor unless you are just trying to be obtuse.

Stone coming back would be huge for the Flames because it would allow them to send down one of Mackey or Gilbert, and bring up a forward (while still banking decent cap space)
