You say this like they all didn't pass on him a month ago

I'm not impressed with Rooney, but is he that much worse than Lucic? Why was it that when Ritchie comes back it's Rooney that got scratch not Lucic?

1/ Trust in Sutter, trust in the system
2/ Fire Rooney into the sun
3/ Bring up some young talent from the farm for offense and energy
4/ Ride the hot hand in net

Free agency and the roster deadline are very different things

We may never know what Vladar’s potential is when he plays once every couple of weeks.
Sutter thinking that Markstrom is going to and needs to work his way through this crappy goaltending with additional starts…?
Seems like watching and working on some of his issues in practice for a week might be a better approach, but evidently Sutter doesn’t buy this.

At least dtmts had a really good set of highlights. I only watched those since I was at work.
Looks like the Flames dominated early, their 4th line cost them a preventable goal against, nobody had the talent to score on Kuemper, and then they sort of coasted through the rest of the game and let themselves get embarrassed. Markstrom not great on the 2-0 goal but the problems started way up ice there.
Very, very, very hard to blame the goalie when you can’t score.

I trust in the system and think they will figure it out long term but they need to put these guys in their long term line combinations and let that cake bake in the ***ing oven (darryl)

Sutter dumping on Ruzicka doesn't help. Young players have a leash once you drop off you don't play the same doesn't apply to the champions the great Trevor Lewis and Milan Lucic, you suck you play more.
It feels like Sutter is just joking around sprinkling 4th line garbage all over the line up and overplaying them.
This isn't the Kings, they traded for Gaborik and Carter to get going. You won't be scoring 2 goals a game and winning a cup in 2023.

Highly unlikely. Phillips has Europe written all over him. You should just acknowledge there are AHL star players and Matthew Phillips' size makes him nothing but that. Phillips would be the smallest player in the modern era - and save all the crazy roster listings that inflate what he really is. Compare him to Pelletier, and he's clearly 2-3 inches shorter than the 5'9" Jacob Pelletier, and measurably slighter in his stature. The guy needs a milk crate to look most of the female reporters in the eye let alone staring an NHL defenseman in anything but the middle of their chests. Phillips is an AHL player. His size makes him that. The odds of him earning a one-way NHL contract are about the same as the Flames drafting Connor Bedard. Not zero, but so unlikely it it is not worth discussing.

because he isn't playing nhl sized players in the ahl already , which also isnt often considered a league with more "toughness" than the nhl
especially now with the nhl at maybe the softest the league has ever been
no chance whatsoever!

Who would have thought that a player with a history of being terrible would be terrible on his new team?

Flames pro scouting has been largely terrible.

A whopping 1 inch shorter and 5 lbs lighter than Gaudreau.
If his size really is as big of an issue as you say it is, and the team always had its mind made up that he was never going to be an NHLer, why have the Flames kept him in their system for as long as they have?

Name the NHL players his size
It's like 1% of the league...you need to be ridiculously good. I would give him a shot but it's unlikely he plays 200 NHL games

Gaudreau has as much talent as anyone in the league...a rare exception

They just need to squeak into playoffs and get hot at the right time. Last year amazing season but coasted in to playoffs and started cold, i'd much rather they have to fight all season and get in on a late run so we go in hot. Once playoffs start everything from the season is the past.
