Huberdeau+Lindholm
Mangiapane+Kadri
Even if it's not working I would swap out Lindholm / Kadri before I'd front load the top line. Those two duos put the Flames in attack mode for 40+ minutes per game. As a team it just makes the Flames hell to match up against, and gives either pair the opportunity to have an off night without throwing the game.

It's time to stop punishing Huberdeau and let him gel with a top 6 offensive centre. The team will not succeed unless Huberdeau is playing with either of Kadri or Lindholm, plus likely another goal scoring winger Huberdeau has chemistry with. Banishing Huberdeau to the bottom six does nothing to deal with the team's long term issues.

Huberdeau is not being "punished." He is sorting out his game on a new team with one of the best centres, who has a long history of bringing the best out of his linemates. The Flames don't really have a "bottom six" right now; they have a fourth line, and three scoring/checking lines that are pretty interchangeable. It probably won't stay like this all year, but for now—with how everyone is playing—I think the slotting is fine.

However you want to describe it, Huberdeau is definitely getting under utilized and not being given the best opportunities. I don't see the benefit of training hm to play with Backlund, as the team won't succeed if that's Huberdeau's permanent role.

I don't see why not. The gap between Backlund, Lindholm and Kadri is not very big, and Huberdeau had a record setting season last year playing with arguably the same calibre players.

Gap in overall play is not huge, but Backlund is not the offensive weapon that Kadri and Lindholm are. Huberdeau is one of the best passers to ever play the game. He set a record for assists by a LW last season. The team needs to get him playing with the best finishers ASAP.

He set that record with a career high 49 point center

And a 58 point winger. He's now playing with a 39 point center and a 33 Point winger. Pretty big difference in overall production.
Backlund and Coleman are perfect 3rd line forwards. Huberdeau shouldn't be anywhere near the third line.

Who also had 28 goals. He also played with 4 other 30+goal scorers. Many of his points were on the PP.
Backlund had 12 goals last year.
Once again, the Flames should be trying to find 2 great finishers for Huberdeau. Huberdeau's proven he can put up big numbers playing with players that are otherwise not so great but can simply put the puck in the net.

Huberdeau needs a puck carrier to gain the zone. Unless Sutter is willing to put him with Kadri, the only other option that can competently and consistently do that at a high-level is Backlund. Sub Coleman with someone else (perhaps Mangiapane), but otherwise, Huberdeau with Backlund is perfectly fine.

They aren’t banishing him. They tried him with lindholm and kadri and he stunk.
Pro sports is about winning. You want to be in the top 6? Play better.

Per above. Then Huberdeau should play better.
He has to be partially accountable to his plight.

Treliving didn't look very happy during that interview between periods yesterday. The comment that some guys have to show more is basically the theme for this season.

The theme that this team being better than expected one year and then worse is extremely bizarre considering the core turnover and the current coach in place

This is the team that Treliving has built and right now it does not look very good . Poor drafting, Lack of skill,Lack of speed and overvalued this team. Still time but the big question is even if they get going how good will they be. Will they hover around 500 all year or will they be a contender like most media and fans thought they would be. Around 30 games and we should have a good idea of what this team is. I know I have seen the mediocrity movie way too many times. If this is the case and Tre is on his 9th season as gm and the team has done very very little it terms of winning that is very condemning.

It’s actually not fine because Backlund and Coleman are not skilled finishers. It’s a total waste of talent playing him with those two. The results so far have been exactly as one would expect.
