I'm a little envious that we won't qualify for $1200 as free money is free money and nobody likes to be left out. $600/kid is pretty good and should help a lot of families but it's kind of weird that people are penalized for not having kids.

I'm sure it's because generally, rural have more kids than urban.

I am troubled that someone on the Alberta "sunshine list" is just as eligible for government inflation relief as would be a senior or someone on a disability pension (aish). Meanwhile folks earning min wage and trying to keep it together are excluded from assistance. They may not have kids but they are trying to stay off social assistance

Where I sit, if your household is making that much, you're doing very well for yourself, and likely don't need the extra money. I don't think the NDP would sink so low to buy votes.

I was thinking about this cutoff and it seems to me it will work against them. Many people needing support will think $180k is way too high, giving people money who don't need it. Conversely, the professional family will be beyond the limit, but those "middle class" urban voters who Smith desperately needs will feel like they deserve it as much as anyone else. There may be resentment when it is time to vote. "Well I didn't get anything. What's in it for me?" And I know they still get the energy rebates, but people remember what they missed out on, not what they got.

I am one of the seniors who qualify-but-don’t-need-it so it’s nowhere near significant enough to buy my vote. If she gave me $10,000 a month….nope.
I took a quick look at a forum that cheered her leadership win and they are not even talking about the speech, makes me wonder if they are having any regrets.

Same with the Federal politics.
I really dislike how political battles now really get into the dirt

Social media demands it. Users aren't satisfied without the dirt being dished, even if it isn't factual. Look at the Johnny Gaudreau thread...

Single people getting left out of Bus Tits Bucks is predictable. Eventually she'll be back to try and buy our votes, maybe $1 beer?

So, assuming these populations are less likely to have kids, cut out most millennials and LGBTQ. Sounds about right for Danielle Smith. Absolutely ridiculous.
And let's not get started on the absurdity of handouts to help with inflation only further drives inflation in a vicious cycle...

I've had several people at work, unsolicited, complain about being excluded from the UCP Christmas payouts. The metrics used to decide who should receive the reallocate tax dollars, are hard to look past.

It’s prototypical conservative playbook. It’s worse than targeted vote buying; it’s intentionally sowing seeds of division between regular low & middle class citizens.

If you had to guess, what would you say are the main reasons? No kids, or make too much money? And would you say they are traditionally Conservative, or NDP? Just curious exactly who feels slighted.

Well it’s because kids are important to the future of society, they’re a lot of work and money, and not nearly enough people today are having them. So it makes sense that people with kids get prioritized.
Anyone childless who bitches that this isn’t fair should just get a side hustle, it’s WAY less time and stress than you’d have to commit being the parent of a child and you’ll make way more than 1200 bucks in a year. that’s the funny part about all this crying about the poor childless people that aren’t getting any free money, like 600 bucks is fair comp for all the hours you have to put in as a parent, lazy asses. This program is dumb and shouldn’t exist but gimme a break.

Two things you’re not addressing. Having kids is a choice and if you thought it’d be inexpensive and easy, you’re an idiot. The second is that those without kids are already massively subsidizing your family. The most obvious one is the education portion of one’s property taxes.
Im not saying those with kids shouldn’t be getting assistance when the government is handing out money, but to feel more entitled because you’ve underestimated what it takes to raise children is just ignorant.
