The parks will balance themselves.

It's a much much bigger discussion, but the real meat of the issue is our expectations/medical ethics/liability. Especially related to end of life, but also 'frequent flyers' with dubious medical concerns using tons of resources. Any changes would take decades and be quickly politicized (see death panels), but even some baby steps in these areas could go a long way.
|
The last time I looked at the emergency room “frequent flyers” it was a homelessness / addiction problem rather than a healthcare system one. So in some of the situations we need to pour money at other areas and not at the healthcare system but the solutions in general will involve increasing spending somewhere.

Why are your taxes going to LIBRULS IN OTTAWA!1!@

The amount of attention and money she is suddenly throwing at Calgary shows the UCP is worried about losing the vote here. They know the balance of the election probably hinges on how the vote goes in the city and suddenly there is plenty of cash to go around.

Speaking of Conservatives wasting time and money, did the Red Tape Commission or whatever ever actually find any fat to trim

Is she raising taxes, or are these just resource boom dollars she has no plan to make work in a down resource year? Handing out moeny and cutting taxes doesn't really do much to fix serious structural issues this province has.

I know of at least one project where this was successfully achieved so far, as I am working on it. But it isn't really being run through the red tape commission, more just was pushed into action by the threat of that commission.
Anyways, I would say it's somewhat successful in reducing provincial regulatory burden in some cases. 18 month to 6 month timeline reduction for EPEA permits, for example.

Removed the class 5 GDL advanced testing requirement. If you drive safe for a period of time your license upgrades automatically.

I saw that one, but what were the actual savings to the public? If anything it seems like it's cutting from the bottom line of Registries.

At $120+ to take the road test it saves plenty to the public.

I know a ton of people that have been driving on a GDL for a decade plus.
I don't think everyone paid it, and the move kind of points to that.

A little late to this, but I'm not sure if I agree.
Royalties are for the people of Alberta to receive our share of resource revenue.
Why should we be exempt from the reclamation liabilities (orphan wells, tailings ponds, etc.) created by the extraction of the resources which generate those revenues for us? Feels a bit like a double standard, no?

Because that would defeat the purpose of collecting royalties.
What other industries require taxpayers to clean up their mess for them using the excuse “well we paid our taxes so don’t be a hypocrite”
