Well, it's a pretty silly take. Last night's game showed us that Markstrom isn't "broken". After a costly mistake he bounced back and pretty well won the game for the team. He was tremendous in the shootout.

Broken players don't do that.

My point was that ever since the playoffs against the oilers, he hasn’t been himself. He’s letting in weak goals and not winning us games.

Don’t know if he is totally broken

But he is not playing like a 6M goalie and there is some serious doubt if he can win big games against a serious team until he proves otherwise.

I think the issue is likely between his ears. His raw skills are still there and were clearly on display yesterday. It seems to be his decision making for the most part that is the issue. And when those poor decision lead to losses, the problem probably compounds itself. Goalies have to be in the moment and if he is spending just half a second second guessing, that is going to lead to gaffes. Hopefully yesterday's win goes a long way to getting his head straight.

I don’t see it as being meaningfully different than roaming around waiting for something negative to happen so you can post about it.

People are allowed to have different opinions. Those opinions include a player being broken, or a poster being a clown. Seems fair enough, doesn’t it?

You are absolutely. I don’t think is 100% unfixable. He’s just not playing up to his abilities. And right now, we need him to be

We are understating how bad he has been.

Of goalies who have played 10 or more games, he is tied for 3rd worst save %

Campbell - .873
Demko - .884
Comrie/Markstrom - .887

Of goalies who have played 13 or more games, he is the worst:

Markstrom - .887
Gibson - .889
Quick - .892
Reimer - .906

It is amazing the Flames have as good of a record as they do with Markstrom having played 14 games.

We are outscoring woeful goaltending (which is great), but as you say - we absolutely need him to get better, and soon.

Can we stop using the term "broken"? I know it sounds cool, but come on, it is completely meaningless because it describes nothing.

Players perform, either well or poorly, or somewhere in between. The best players are the ones who perform well consistently.

not all shots are created equal...save % counts a breakaway the same as a shot from the far blue line.

He has made "the big save" to win in 3 of the last 4 games

I don’t consider winning a game against a contender or losing a game to a bottom feeder in the regular season is an indication of anything

To beat a real contender in a playoff series, you need to be at the top of your game and right now only a fool thinks Markstrom is.

Markstrom was great last year. Being a Vezina candidate is not a fluke, however lots of things went great last year. This year? Markstrom is terrible. Since when do we celebrate a goaltender not giving up a gaffe per game? Don't think he is a terrible goaltender, but he hasn't been particularly good this year at all.
