Oh yeah totally that's a reason to disregard his 3 assists. and 7 points in his last 4 games

Its certainly part of the story of the game last night...they were getting their asses kicked, stars goalie got hurt, Panthers came storming back, Bennett took a dumb penalty that ended the comeback attempt. I didn't disregard anything. He helped get them back in the game but then did something stupid...I watched the game not just the boxscore.
FloridaPuck is sensitive

If you value winning more than personal stats, then yeah, it kind of is. At a minimum, it seems fair to mention.

I wasn't trying to suggest any of that. I am a fan of Bennett and have not had a dog in this race since the Bennett thread was created (he is a former player, so I am happy to see him do well).
I simply pointed out that the reference to the penalty, at a key time, when they were down a goal, was valid. And I think it's pretty fair to say that he does that on a too frequent basis.

Again it was a pretty massive factor in the game...Panthers were all over them when he took the dumb penalty. Last time I checked hockey was about winning not individual stats

Yep, I will call out a Flames player if he takes a dumb penalty in a close game too...no matter how many points they have
Never said he was a bad player either...never have
Some posters just check the box score every game and are giddy to post when he puts up points. Pretty sure his own coach wasn't thrilled with him there either.
"Can't take that penalty" in the presser
But Maurice is an obvious Flames homer so whatever

Come now - you're one of the biggest wet blankets in the Bennett thread.

Sam Bennett and dumb penalty was synonymous when he was with the Flames according to a lot of posters here, and they hated him for that. And now, it doesn't matter because he scores points though his team lose. I am happy for Sammy that he has found his scoring touch, I have always liked Sammy, even now that he is the enemy still couldn't bring myself to hate him. But pointing out he took a dumb penalty causing his team to complete a come back is fact not slighting on him having a good game or a good player.

Let's see... what was a more "massive factor" in the Pathers loss... Sam's penalty, or the fact that the team gave up 5 goals prior to it?
The cats scored a whopping 1 goal that Bennett didn't get an assist on. Seems like they would have been much worse off if Sam wasn't in the lineup that night.
I guess that's what I find slightly annoying, people lacking a sense of proportionality when talking about these things. Acting like Sam's penalty was the #1 reason for the loss.
Sam never reached his full potential as a Flame. We can speculate all we want about the reasons why, but to me it never seemed like the organization did all it could to help Sam reach that potential.
FloridaPuck? Lol no. The Panthers are a smidge above .500 despite an easy schedule thus far, they are overrated and will be lucky to make the playoffs. I have no love for them.

It goes both ways...if people can post about every point he gets for the rest of his career I can surely post about the dumb stuff
The OP can here to say I toada so about and brag about 3 assists using words like derpy derp seconds after I watched him blow his teams chance of a comeback, I feel it warranted a mention. Every knock on Sam Bennett is quickly followed by the Sam Bennett police, I knew it was coming.

Also it’s more about the posters that would die on a hill that Bennett sucks and he’ll always be a useless hockey player which is clearly not the case.

5 points in two losses vs DAL and CGY. Took a late penalty in the 1st that lead to our first goal of the game (in a 1-goal shootout win). Took a late penalty in the 3rd against DAL while his team was trying to tie the game, DAL scores to seal the win.
5 individual points, yet still a negative in terms of his ability to impact a win.

I guess the Flames haven't done so poorly with their drafting. Monahan, Bennet, Tkachuk and Gaudreau all still putting up decent points, just not with the team that chose them.
It's just too bad Huberdeau and some other Flames players beyond Kadri aren't yet delivering at expected levels.
