Lindholm and Toffoli are starting to click and close to a point per game. I wouldn't split them up. Ruzicka's maybe not the long term 1LW so there's an argument to moving him off so Huberdeau can build chemistry, but I think 1C and 1RW are should be locked up for a while.

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Toffoli
Ruzicka - Kadri - Mangiapane
Dube - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic - Rooney/Lewis - Ritchie
This is what I'd like to see, go back to the lines that we started the season with, but add Ruzicka in place of Dube since I don't think Dube has earned the chance to play with those two at this point. Alternatively, I'd also love for Zary/Pelletier or to a lesser extent Phillips getting an opportunity in Dube's place, and have Dube sit out for 2-3 games to light a fire under him.
No matter what the lines are next game though, I just pray Sutter will have the confidence in the team to stick to these lines for the remainder of the roadtrip to let chemistry develop. Also, if Markstrom could get one of the Equipment managers to stich up that hole he has in his Glove, that'd be grrreat.

The lines right now are ugly, but the ones proposed by Wilson are just as bad.

It’s about reuniting a line that works: 88-11-20 were great together last season, would be crazy not to try to find some chemistry by doing that again.
Ruzicka-Lindholm-Toffoli : worked for three games before Sutter decided Ruzicka needed to not play as much last game.
Huberdeau-Kadri-Phillips: We need a RH top 9 forward…time to give Phillips a look
Mangaipane-Backlund-Coleman: great together last year, an elite third line if it works
Lucic-Dube-Lewis/Ritchie: Dube has always looked good with Lucic for whatever reason.

Assuming no Phillips call-up for cap reasons or whatever, I wouldn't mind trying Ritchie at 2RW. If Huberdeau-Kadri-Ritchie clicks, it means one can build the rest of the lines as you have - where they all have worked well in the past. Of the 4th liners, Ritchie is the one who actually puts the puck in the net, and the most worthy of elevation. Put him with a passer and a puck carrier, let him check and crash the net, and I think he might fit.

If you’re talking about the first three years I agree, but this is not a league where teams are looking to add five years at $6 million plus for a guy in his 30s who will have more wear and tear on him by the time those years kick in. Lot of risk involved, which drives down value. Weegar and Huberdeau would have probably had greater value at the deadline if the Flames waited to see what they brought to the equation, but that possibility is long gone. I understand the deals and the desire to lock in a core, but there is a chance that these contracts merely become anchors sooner as well as later.

It’s a joke that we have a talented player like Phillips sitting on the farm and have a huge gap to fill in the top 6 and he doesn’t get a look… waive Rooney and bring up Phillips for at least a few games… no one will pick up Rooney and if they do Lewis goes back to C the 4th line.

Those lines look fine to me. It's the converting Lindholm into a winger and converting a winger into a C that always puzzles me. We already have 3 great players up the middle why would you kill that depth?

Put Lucic on waivers to wake up the coach. Moneyball style..."I'm playing Lucic on the 2nd line"..."actually, no you are not".

Sutter wouldn't tolerate someone telling him how to coach.
He'll just head back to the farm and not give it a second thought.

Typical pgt after a loss. Flames played well, a couple bounces and it's a big win. The only concern I have is Markstrom but I believe wolf can step in any time so not too worried.

I assume that sort of action would void his contract? I don’t think it will happen but it does seem we’re repeating many of the problems of the late 2000 Flames when he became a GM with the type of players he wants to play.

Sounds about right, how ballsy and bad ass would it be to hire Quenneville?

It’s not unprecedented but that stuff usually happens more in football or baseball. Look at Urban Meyer. I agree it’s not happening for many reasons, at least from from the Flames side. They have too much respect for Sutters accomplishments here, the Flames are not likely going to throw money away unless forced, he’s an alberta boy and it’s just not their MO. Likely they would fire Trev first and let the new GM figure out the coaching situation.

I don't think Flames ownership/management cares about any of that re: Sutter? It's all about business. The GM? no...I think that he has done pretty well, I think he got lucky with the Tkachuk trade and dumping the Monahan contract...he has done ok.

you can't just be trumpeting to can sutter without offering a realistic suggestion for a replacement that comes anywhere close to sutter
the grass on the other side is a swamp of geoff wards and glen gulutzans right now . is that what you want? .. or can you get over the fact that he said a guy defecated
i know the team probably can

It remains to be seen that he can unlock the offensive players he has. If he can’t do that it doesn’t matter if they can get over his verbal snafus. I think most posters here are far more concerned about his lineups and goalie usage than anything else right now.
