(Leaving it at this)
I don't believe that Huberdeau or other Flames would be that butthurt over a comment like this. If something like that caused a "rift in the locker room", there's something wrong with the team itself.
If Huberdeau was annoyed, it probably lasted 10 seconds, then he moved on, like any reasonable adult would.

I dont think it was meant as if its divided the team and everyones upset now.
My feeling is it was basically a comment that didnt need to be said and it rubbed more than just Huerdeau the wrong way.

Just a lack of respect comment that a few guys didn't appreciate.

Dont take it the wrong way.

Sutter likes Western Canadians, not French Canadians. this isn't unexpected.

Enjoy that long contract Huberdeau.. this ain't Florida

Sutter's comments are interesting in the sense that I don't think Huberdeau has ever had to hear his coach criticize him in public before. I can't remember a single time that happening during his time in Florida and he had 10+ coaches there. Quenneville was probably the most tough on him but never said anything in public even though he benched Huby a couple of times.

Weird that his time on ice leaders are Swedes among forward, on defense, and in net then.

I'm sure he will enjoy the long contract. And no, Calgary isn't Florida.

It's a perfect example of a rumor or a comment that takes on a whole life of its own and becomes way more than it needs to be.

I'm Sutter super fan #1 and I didn't really like poopy comment. In a vacuum it's actually hilarious, and maybe the league could use a but more color but it's kinda crude for really one of the top jobs in the sport, in the world. It's kind of unbecoming.

That doesn't change the fact that he should be a hall of fame coach and he has two(3) Stanley cups with his name. If the players lose respect or maybe start to tune him out based in that? Given his entire body of work and respect around the league? Then that's on the players.

Everyone knows why he made the comment, I would call it an unnecessary media misstep.

It's a thankless place to play and coach hockey when the pitchforks are out when the team is not performing how they're expected to.

I get why a player and his teammates would be put off by it. The guy was testing out an injury to see if he could keep playing for his team. His coach drops a line that wasn't all that funny, more odd than anything. Next thing you know he has to hear his name associated with that comment for days on end. It painted him in an unflattering light in a few ways.

We're only 15 games into the season. It may take Huberdeau and Weager maybe even one full season to find their places on the team. I'm not too worried about those two players as opposed to some of the other members who have been with the team for several years already.

Sutter just seems like one of those guys who just likes to #### stir. Which I often think is funny when he’s sending barbs at the media for stupid questions. (See Francis or most of the highlights from the Kings days) He needs to take a bit more care with his own players though and probably should bite his tongue there.

I said nothing of Huberdeau having a poor choice of words. I realize by adding in that take about frustration in the scrum, which was a split second that many didn't pick up on, I confused the article - which asks the question about their relationship ... which is a work in progress.
Steve, this whole interaction has me wondering if in your mind the media was at the center of this story and most forum members here jumped to the assumption that the team was at the center of your story.

Might be a framing problem, you feel a lot closer to the media than most of us do for obvious reasons, and the rest of us feel closer to the team than to the media because that's what we care about. Probably an indictment of poor reading skills as a group, but you probably need to pander to that a little bit, change the thread title that's your intent "Huberdeau showing signs of annoyance with Calgary Media".

Contraversy creates cash.

I remember huge debates on this board that Chris Drury wasn't happy here because he didn't smile when he was talking to the media.

It just turned out that he just wasn't a smiley person.
