There's nothing stopping Crunch from updating his thread title now to reflect that the info he was relaying is false. I know there's probably some obscure Star Wars fan theory that needs obsessive elaboration, but it shouldn't take more than a few seconds.

Don't let the fact that the original tweet was wrong deter you from full support of the revolution occurring in Iran. The theocracy there is long overdue to be displaced, and their list of atrocities over the years makes the executions of 15K protesters plausible and easy to believe.

The world should support a free Iran with any means that they have available. The sway of religion in the political sphere should have continued a decline to extinction after the Dark Ages. Separation of Church and State only benefits the people, as organized religion is an easy track to control.

I don’t understand the thread title. Trudeau made up this rumour? Why is he being mentioned? Shouldn’t it just be changed to “Iranian Protests” or something?

I still don't really get who is arguing what here. Ultimately a bunch of media outlets & Trudeau boasted the great "15,000" execution order, only to be corrected. Is anyone contesting any of that?

Ultimately I think we're all on the same side of the Iranian regime being bats**t insane and due for an overthrow by their people....but really we're just arguing how gullible our western media is to "sexy" headlines like the execution order of 15,000 people

Kind of correct. You wanted to despite it not being relevant, so now we’re arguing about how gullible our western media is to sexy headlines like executing 15,000 people.

You’re saying a “bunch of western media outlets” were very gullible and boasted the 15,000 execution order, something (like 15,000 people being sentenced to execution) that didn’t happen. I’m not sure what you don’t understand, outside of you not understanding the basic premise that the above did not happen.

Dunk on Newsweek? Sure, they’ve had multiple instances of bad reporting over the last few years. Trudeau? Great, what an idiot. But “western media” were the ones who actually fact-checked the story and urged people to stop sharing it. So making this about “western media” comes across as dumb or lazy or both.

Yes, I'm contesting that.
It wasn't media posting this (except Newsweek); it was social media meme accounts and people reposting.
I've been following these posts for about a week and there was never any legit media sources as they were fact checking it and refusing to post it.
This despite every idiot on Instagram tagging them and berating them for not sharing the news.

This is actually an example of why media is so important and them doing their job correctly, not an example of them being gullible as you're trying to portray.
Massive difference.

I was only slightly annoyed with the misinformation still showing up as a title until I saw he actually came and posted in the thread after it was known to be false. So he had time, he had the knowledge, but he just doesn't care.

That kind of "contribution" deserves no approbation.

Plus, it's also why reputation via posting history is important and has value. If this was a one-off I think people would have given him the benefit of the doubt; however, we've seen him post right-wing disinformation several times on the forum so he's lost some goodwill on that front.

This whole thread has reminded us of the horrible demise of Iranian democracy so he has done a good thing even if it was for the wrong reason.

Iran truly looks like they are going to execute a lot of protestors

CNN: Exclusive: Iranian footballer is among dozens facing execution while the West is distracted by Christmas, supporters fear
https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/23/middl...ntl/index.html

Quote:
Shahid Alikhani square is a nondescript part of the historic Iranian city of Isfahan. Its sole claim to prominence is the grand entrance to one of the city’s main metro stations.

But now it has become a place of pilgrimage for supporters of the high-profile Iranian footballer Amir Nasr-Azadani who fear the young man could be executed in the square, where an execution platform has been installed, a witness close to Nasr-Azadani in Iran told CNN.

Terrified Iranian families believe that while the Western world is preoccupied with Christmas celebrations, a wave of executions in the country is imminent following the recent protests that have swept the country following the death in September of Mahsa Amini, a young woman detained by Iran’s notorious morality police for being accused of improperly wearing her hijab.

In collaboration with the activist group 1500Tasvir, CNN has verified documents, video, witness testimony and statements from inside the country which suggest that at least 43 people, including Nasr-Azadani, could face imminent execution.
Quote:
According to state media, the city’s chief justice, Asadullah Jafari, said Nasr-Azadani had been charged with Baghi – or rioting against authorities. Under Iran’s penal code, the sentence carries the death penalty.
