MoneyPuck still has the Flames at 85.7% for making the playoffs.
Despite being 7-6-2. They have the Flames finishing 2nd in the division. And they have the Flames at 11.9% to make the finals, which is the 5th highest in the league.

I think most of the angst is around Markstrom and for good reason. We saw what happened last year when he wasn’t on his game. If he can’t find his game this season, things are going to get ugly. There’s still time and he’s definitely shown flashes, but he’s been extremely inconsistent.
|
Oh I know. That’s all we see now in GTs and PGTs.
I guess I was just naive, I thought some people might enjoy a victory after the team played well.

There were like 2.5 pages worth of negativity then about 9 pages of people complaining about that negativity. It's actually the second bit that creates the blackhole of suck, imo.
Just ignore people you don't agree with. I don't even mean the ignore feature. Just scroll past. Or better, start a conversation about a positive thing and move the narrative away.

Great to get the win. Those complaining/worried about Markstrom shouldn't be too shunned. He hasn't been great and the numbers are pretty supportive of that. But, he's buckling down and making huge saves at key times which has been a saving grace (pun intended)
I figured, with the huge amount of turnover this offseason, the team would need ~20 games to get in a rhythm. They've been pretty up and down during any one game. The in-game downs happen to every team, but I'd like to see those downs a little less dramatic during this next run of six.

The good parts of last night game (offence, line combinations, timely saves) were great to see.
The bad parts (defensive lapses, bad goals) are correctable because these areas of our game are suppose to be our strengths.
Lots to feel good about.

I wish I could downvote all these negative takes on the game. We won, talk about some of the positives at least. Huberdeau scored! He scored a freaking goal, Mangiapane scored too!
Markstrom was average, I just researched the goals against, 2 were questionable. The direct shot from Kopitar, he could have had that, probably should have had that but it was a rocket.
The other one was from the corner off the rebound that went off his pad and in, the 2nd goal. The rest weren’t on him IMO.
They finally had some luck but also created their own luck with their hard forechecking. This is what some don’t understand is that Sutter wants the whole team to play the system perfectly. The new guys are getting better at it for sure. But those who know it and are playing it are some of the bottom 6 players.
Once the top 6 fully get it, their time on ice will go up, the same happened when Sutter got here with JG and MT.
I’m not worried, work out the kinks now, get into good habits. Build chemistry, learn each other’s tendencies, and string together some solid games. It’ll come with this group. We just had a long losing streak and I avoided this place for the whole duration of that streak.
Let’s start a new one and start being optimistic around here. This team will figure it out and start climbing the standings.
That’s 2 in a row. May the Flames never lose again.

That was a fun game to watch. Kings look like a solid group overall. Glad the Flames won this one, as it was close at the end and definitely felt like the Kings would tie it up. Luckily Markstrom pulled out his best Grant Fuhr impression (yuck) to hold the 6-5 lead!
Lots to clean up, but I'm not going to complain too much. Huby scores in his return and hopefully is the start of a streak for him. Flames offensive depth really came through finally. The best way to come out of a 7 game losing streak is to go on a new win streak. 2 in a row and hopefully it picks up some steam.

They won. He came up big when they needed him to be and prevented it from going into OT or even losing in regulation if he doesn't stop either of those powerplay chances. It really shouldn't matter how many goals he ended up letting in. If they lost then yeah I get the constant bitching. It's all about wins and not the fancy stats that gets obsessed about.
It just feels like wasted energy and trying to find things to complain about for the sake of complaining. After what happened the last couple of weeks we all should be happy they're winning again.

I have to admit I don't frequent these threads much anymore and maybe this is why as there are far more posts complaining about negativity than there was actual negative posts. Really weird thread.

Ya, but they're being negative about a negative...and that's positive...right?
At the end of the day, a W is a W. It doesn't matter how you get the wins, it's about how many wins you get.

In my opinion the only number that really matters for goalies is wins.

I am pretty stoked about Ruzicka. He has looked fantastic on the top line, and if he can play that role all year, what an incredible find for the Flames!

I would hope that people recognize this as a clear sign that posters by-and-large are not especially keen on wallowing in pessimism about the team after a win. Clean that up, and everyone is happy.

I see it as completely the opposite problem. People want a place to vent about things, that's exactly what this forum is. If you don't want to read it, don't. Don't engage with it. Provide commentary that instead guides the conversation in directions you would like.
All you do by pointing out the negativity and griping about it is elevate the level of conversation around it. That's the wallowing. If we're making it a pig metaphor, the negative posters are just farmers spreading manure, but the pigs wallowing in the manure and mucking it all around are the posters then making a fuss about the negativity.
Would it be cool if people griped less? Sure. Is that a reality on the internet of today? Absolutely-f- no. Go look at the off-topic forum for ample evidence of this. The best solution is to give it no play time. Instead, ignore it and talk about whatever positive thing you want to.
I'll go: I like the comments about Ruzicka. A few weeks ago I was lamenting that we couldn't find our own "micheal Bunting" equivalent. Well, now we have one that looks just as good and maybe better if he keeps it up. That's huge.
I would still like to see Philips brought up and given a chance. Hate to pick on Lewis because he played pretty well last night too, but I'd like to see phillips beside Huberdeau-Backlund.

Agreed. Not sure why there is so much critism of the team. Markstrom let in one from Kopitar for nearly the blueline with no traffic when the Flames were in complete control to give the Kings life. Thankfully he made a huge save to win the game

On the plus side, the Flames have the easiest strength of schedule based on all remaining games.
Their strength of schedule so far is actually crazy - they’ve played the toughest schedule so far by a lot.

You can view some of the goals as "weak", but they were really the result of just a couple of bad decisions by skaters once the game was out of hand. Was the Kopitar goal even that bad? It was one of those perfect shots above the pad and below the blocker that went off the post and in. The other a brutal bounce off the boards, and the other a lucky deflection. These types of goals happen when you're playing good teams, with really good players.
The Flames have now put out 5 straight very consistent games compared to the earlier stages of the season and this last game was essentially still a 6-3 win without all the tomfoolery. Let's not dig much deeper than the team let up a little once the game was out of hand and also had some bad luck with bounces/deflections.

Nope. You want to vent? Go yell at your cat.
This is a discussion forum where people want to discuss the hockey team they cheer for. The vast majority of people that come here - to a PGT after a W, specifically - want to enjoy, and discuss, the win.
But some people are just ridiculously negative all the time, and re-post their negativity over and over. If all you can do after a win is complain about the imperfections - and note, I said complain, not discuss - then keep it to yourself.
