Maybe Huberdeau is no good.

Either way, he's playing like he wants it. Huge assist on the GWG shorthanded.

I said this once before, but based on Sutter's comments I think that si long as both Tanev and Backlund are on the team he will not name a captain. It's both if them until one of them moves on.

I think that missing Kylington is part of that. Seems to me he was pretty decent at moving the puck out quickly.

If Rooney was sent down tomorrow, zero concerns.
To improve their NHL roster, it should be done

Sutter's quote last night is nothing. That new line is clicking, Sutter doesn't want to split them up upon a players return, it wasn't anything bad.
|
It's not evil media twisting things at all. The players actually didn't like the comment. Both Seravalli suggested this on Barn Burner and Mike Commodore on the youtube broadcast last night said he head the Flames didn't like it.
I guess you guys like to pretend these quotes from Sutter are meaningless or try to blame media for interpreting them but they stand on their own. he's just being a dick, its ok to say so.

Centers are obviously more important, but if Ruzicka can have a successful transition to wing in this league, while still maintaining his preference as a natural centre, then the organization is all the better for it. His skillset is needed in the top nine, and without an injury there isn't any room for him in the top 3 center positions.
Like many tweener type prospects, he has all the tools to be a really good NHLer. His day to day consistency as a pro will make or break his career.

Ruzicka has been flying the last couple of games, forechecking hard and making good plays. I think he’s starting to ‘get it’.

That was a great game. The save was unreal, crowd erupted, got everything going.
Was fun to be there.

Even on the broadcast you could hear the crowd buzzing about it for pretty much the entire time until the next whistle.

Kylington is definitely part of it - his transition game was probably his biggest strength. You take him out and put Stone in, the transition game takes a bit of a hit.
Then take Tanev out and put Mackey in, and there is going to be more defensive zone time.
The other factor, IMO, is that the top 4 are playing 25 minutes a night because of the injuries, and as a result, they just aren't going to skate as much, they are going to be looking to just push it up the boards to the winger a lot more often. And that is the easiest play for the opposing D to pinch.
All of these issues are temporary (well, except maybe for Kylington)

I was directly behind Markstrom’s net last night (not my usual vantage point) and had as good a view as you could get for that save (and the Lewis goal)
That was unreal

I got a little triggered when Millen made a brief comment about Kadri been known as a diver. When will, if ever, McDavid be called out for his dives?

That's what I said last night. You would never hear him or any broadcaster call Golden Boy out for being a diver.

To be fair, McDavid clearly hasn't been negatively impacted by his diving yet. You'd think he has a reputation for it from the refs, but based on the soft calls he constantly gets its not hurting him.
That Backlund crosschecking penalty vs McDavid was as soft as it gets.

I think the best explanation for the 4th lines puzzling deployment is that they're some of the few players that are consistently doing what they are asked. But their execution with the puck is that of middling 4th line players. I don't think Sutter holds grudges on execution issues, unless it stems from other areas that are lacking. He sees 4th line players that are preparing properly, practicing properly, in the right position consistently, working hard, and checking hard. If all of those ducks are in a row, he can live with the results. Once the top end of the lineup gets on the same program, it bares fruit. There have been too few top 9 forwards on that program.
I'm not sure that I 100% agree, but I'm also not a cup winning coach.
It's probably a dash of Sutter stubbornness, but I think there's a method to his madness.

I woke up in the middle of the night (mid second) because I couldn’t sleep. Highlight of the night was hearing Rick Ball.

To me it’s more about not experimenting with Lindholm when Huberdeau is hurt and he’s a happy that’s its worked with Ruzicka and Toffoli.
Typical Francis spinning things. Sutter isn’t going to talk bad about a hurt player.
|
Agreed. I don't get the uproar over the comment. If Francis doesn't put that little quip as the last sentence, is this even a discussion? I fail to see exactly how this is offensive to JH in anyway. Maybe I'm just blind...

Flames win 3-2. Thank you, Rick Ball
I think Tanev might be our most important player… which isn’t great since he is somewhat injury prone. Let’s hope he can stay healthy.

So in the first 10 minutes of the last 4 games combined now, the Flames have outshot their opponent 30-2

it was a really strong 60 minute game . about as decisive as a 3-2 game could be
white out was even throwing in the towel with 10 minues left . Flames were suffocating
