$19m sounds pricey but it might be the going rate plus they lose out on the compensatory pick if he declines and signs elsewhere.

He saved the team's bacon this year, but even I am hesitant to believe he will replicate it. He's more Matz than Walker.

If you want him back it’s probably around 35 for 3

Doesn’t make sense to give him a 19 mil one year deal vs just paying him ~7 million a year for the extra 2 years

If they believe he can replicate

The Jays might only have $20 million of payroll room, if that.

Can't use it all up on Stripling, he may never repeat his 2022 performance.

Hopefully they can still get him re-signed because, without Strip, they have only three (2.5?) starters. Ryu is probably done and god knows what Kikuchi is. The only starting caliber prospect is Tiedemann who is still pretty young.

Probably just click bait material but on MLB network they said Jays could be players for Turner, Boegarts or Correa and then would move Bichette

We don't really know what with have with Bichette. His bat was great until this year. Hard to say if he has the ability to adjust to pitchers who are adjusting to him. Only real problem I have with him is his selfish approach in insisting to play SS to up his free agency value. They seem to be tiptoeing around it but he's not an MLB calibre SS and I don't think he'll ever be quick or strong enough to do it. He's less of a risk at 2nd. If he can't handle that reality and wants to bend the Jays over in free agency, hopefully they're covering their butts now by exploring dealing him now if they can get a better SS.

I just hope Correa is ever on the Jays. Hate that guys arrogance.

How do we know that's his motivation?

Ya everything I have read about Bo says the exact opposite. Cares about his team mates, is an extremely hard worker, but yes has a ton of belief in himself which some might interpret at arrogance, frankly the Jays need some of that, that's just a guy who wants to win and be great.

Again it's always good to remember that it is highly uncommon for guys like Bo and Vlad to be doing what they're doing at their age in the Majors. There are basically no players younger than Bo producing like him at SS, Jeremy Pena had a tremendous WS but still didn't come close to Bo's regular season.

Romano took that message to heart.

"The stress has gone down, the anxiety has gone down," Romano said
Kind of damned if you do and damned if you don't on this Jays team to some. Vlad's not serious. Bo's too cocky. The team isn't serious enough, too much fun. etc.

Not sure where to drop this but,

Win a WS and get fired for asking for some security.

What an organization.

Yeah I just don't like the assumption of selfish intent being made.
We don't know what Bo's motivations are.

He is having a hall of famer type start to his career.
Should be a guy that we are looking excited to watch for many years.

So we should sign a SS for 33 million and 7-9 years who we will be getting their down years instead of keeping our cheaper , better , and younger SS

What do you mean that Bo’s bat was great til this year? His bat was just as good this year, especially in a season where offence was down. Sure it took a crazy September to do it but he did it. Yeah he has some defensive issues but I think a lot of it is just knowing when it’s okay to accept an infield single. As for his negative reaction he gets out of fans it’s odd because he doesn’t act out at all. I think it’s mostly because of how he looks and how aggressive he sometimes plays. Makes people think he doesn’t care when he clearly does. I would say he has his head in the game more often than most of our other players, Vlad and Teo and Springer included.

Well, that depends on what you can get for Bo, and the scuttlebutt floating around right now is that it would be something around Bo for Acuna

I like Bo, but if the Jays think they can get Correa or Bogaerts to sign, and then also add Acuna, I take that option.

Yes you get a bit older at SS, but you also get a bit better at SS, plus that would be a massive upgrade of a franchise player in the OF.

Fair question. I don't. I'm purely guessing, honestly.

The Jays would add ~40 million in salary in this situation for next season and still have no 4th or 5th starter

I guess you deal Teo for a SP after , but there is just no situation the Jays can add a 30 million $ SS

He isn’t. But he is good at what he does.

Dusty and Click didn’t see eye to eye and Crane was on team Dusty all season long. So this wasn’t a surprise, Crane was effectively the GM through the regular season and deadline mixing a trade for Contreras.

Defense is awfully important for a SS. Kind of limits how much Bichette can ultimately make IMO unless he’s willing to switch positions.

You’re also seeing MLB quickly pivoting to valuing relievers, wonder what the Jays do there.
