I think Dube really needs to be moved back down to the 3rd line. He’s not a top-6 player.

It’s time to call up Phillips. The team needs more dynamic scorers and at this point there’s nothing to lose in calling him up.

I agree with Dube.

Phillips cannot be sent back down without going through waivers. So there is lots to lose. Right now he’s getting ice time. I’m sure he’ll be up later in the season.

To my mind the sky is not falling. Before the season started, when I looked at the schedule while taking the new players into account, I assumed and hoped they'd be 500 team at Christmas. I expect them to heat up in the new year as the schedule weakens and hopefully chemistry improves. They are still on that pace, hopefully as the season progresses the team gets stronger and healthier.

My biggest concern right now is how Sutter is handling the team. Does every public communication need to be a shot at someone on his team? It's getting old from the outside, how is it being received by the players?

Since Phillips was already waived, wouldn't he need to spend 10 games/30 days on the roster before he needs waivers again?

Either way, if he scores, you're going to keep him anyway. If he does nothing, at his age, you probably don't care if you lose him, really.

It's funny, I am a Bruins fan and was going along with this game thread and one for the Bruins that I frequent and both were the same. My team is playing terrible and the other team is playing great.
All the Bruins fans in the other board were saying how great the Flames were playing and if they had just a tiny bit of luck the Bruins would have been embarrassed out of the building.
I know doom and gloom is the cool thing lately, but if just a little bit of puck luck were to go the Flames way they would be winning a lot more. Sure there are little holes, but overall they are playing well.

I agree, but what I saw was a lack of effective transition from the D. It is an underrated aspect of Tanev's game, and obviously they are missing Kylington, too.

They are losing him at the end of the season anyways as a free agent.
So if they think he can help - then bring him in.

Lucky for us, he isn’t.

Would way rather try a guy like Phillips for 5-10 games than have a guy who cannot play in the NHL play night in and night out. Rooney is a 45% guy on the dot though, so I guess there is that.
He played 60+ games for the Rangers last year and 15 playoff games.

I don't think he has much of an impact either way, which isn't great. But the Flames' woes have little to do with Kevin Rooney.

It feels like there's at least one guy on every line that's playing one line above where they should be. And our defence, what's going on there? I thought they'd be so much better but they're constantly running around and losing battles.

The schedule over the next 11 games is still pretty difficult with few, if any, easy teams. I'm finding it difficult to stay hopeful but if they're able to stay above .500 over this upcoming stretch, there's hope.

When Huberdeau comes back, he likely won't be 100% so I'm kind of doubtful we're going to get out of him what this team needs in the short term.

So many players having sub-par years after this team had so many players with above-par/career years last year.

Really?

I see a team that can't score five on five and can't win the special team battle in any game.

If you look at all NHL teams during the Flames 7 game losing streak the Flames are 7th best in xGA60.

They are not poor defensively.

They are 31st in GF60 on the powerplay in this skid.

Honestly with two key players out and the league's worst schedule to start the season it really isn't all that surprising that a Sutter team is showing up, competing, but doesn't have the firepower to get it done.

I was just using him as an example of a guy that could easily be removed from the equation if the Flames wanted to give Phillips a chance. One could easily slot Phillips in one of the top 3 RW spots, move Lewis to center the line with Ritchie and Lucic and I doubt anything would be lost. I agree that the Flames woes have little to do with Rooney outside the fact that he is easily expendable to try to get more offence in the lineup.

If they bring Phillips in, I think he needs to play on the 2nd line to be given a fair shake. Having players like Ruzicka in the top 6 is scary.

No way to sugar coat it. The Flames will need to battle hard all season to make up for this start. Let's hope they have it in them.

That's silly.

One of the best bluelines in hockey, good goaltending, some star power up front, three great centers down the middle

There's a reason they were on every list in the top five.

Tough schedule.
Injuries.

They'll be fine.

From the start of the season, my concern is the lack of quality wingers...

Especially on the right side

Flames simply don't have allot of pure scorers

Unfortunately I don't believe a call up from AHL will help..

Flames are going to need to find a way to turn this around
