child
/CHīld/
noun
a young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority.
Listen, if you wanna handwave a lot of ####ty behaviour as boys will be boys so be it, but it's pretty disingenuous and weird. The younger years of this weird relationship between these two boys is one thing, but he was 14 years old for this most heinous incident.
Let's just be precise and stick with the most factual statement. IMO 14 is much closer to 'young adult' than child, but that's probably a useless discussion when we can just say he was 14. It's 2 clicks of the keyboard.
At age 14 a lot of dumb stuff happened. But I am absolutely sure that 99.9% of 14 year olds know how off-side this degree of bullying is to someone with development disabilities.

No one is saying this.
The fact is he hasn’t demonstrated anymore remorse than Todd Bertuzzi crying after assaulting Steve Moore. Being terrified of accountability isn’t remorse.
If anyone is an expert on embarrassing themselves it would be you.

Powerplay Quarterback

There are thousands of kids trying to get into the NHL every year, and somehow the Bruins thought they'd take a chance on this one? If he was the next Ovechkin I could see the blowback being possibly worth it.
Shame on the Bruins.

You may be on the side of right this time, but you are a keyboard bully.

Yeah but you probably consider someone disagreeing with Flames Ownership to be bullying, so doesn't mean a whole lot.

No. I just have a long memory from when you bragged about suggesting you [paraphrased] “ran me off the forum” for “calling out my astroturfing” when I had actually just had enough of your insults.

Yeah, you're gonna have to go ahead and find that post because I don't recall that at all. Please prove that claim, sounds made up.
edit: haha and of course Jiri thanks that bs.

See but, this isn’t what anyone is saying. Nobody is saying he shouldn’t be able to have a job or that he has to go to jail. People have issue with him being given a chance at a luxury profession. Making the NHL is a dream and a privilege, not a right or a need. There is also very little difference between most tweeners, so there are literal thousands of players you could give a chance to.

This is not true. The magistrate has never publicly said this. The only source for this claim is Joni Meyer-Cruthors, the mother of the victim.

I think that’s correct, but if you took the time to really read and comprehend what posters are saying, it’s not the act itself that he committed over a number of years that is so offensive today, it’s his lack of remorse thereafter that is grinding everyone.
He is still suggesting it was a singular act of bullying while, in fact, it was a systematic series of racist acts over many years he is failing to acknowledge.
Why is he doing this?
Pretty simple because he refers to it as bullying because he believes it is more forgivable than racism. Until he truly acknowledges the severity and extent of his acts, most here have no desire to give him a second chance.
The fact he never mentions the word racism in his statements suggests he is skirting the issue because he remains a racist today and doesn’t truly understand the full extent of what he did over many years.

"How bizarre you (guys) sound"? What have I stated in this thread, one way or the other? Please feel free to point out anything I have stated that you might have found to be bizarre.
As for your question regarding Jiri: that was the whole point - I DO take Jiri for someone who I would expect to reconsider his own assessment. And that is precisely why I posted what I did, because, when presented with some information that shed some uncertainty (to say the least) about his assessment of the situation, he chose to dispel the information, instead of re-evaluating his position. I felt that was a fairly poor reaction from him, so I challenged it. Pretty straight-forward.
The only 'bizarre' thing I see here is your post to me.

How about we also judge him on what he has done since he was 14. Maybe look at how he has treated other persons of colour, those with learning disabilities, teammates, classmates etc…. This would tell everyone if he has changed, learn, grown.

How do you know? Maybe he took in the information, re-evaluated his position, and it didn’t change his outlook?
Your challenge of “have you ever thought you might be wrong?” was bizarre and I stated why. You’d have to either not have read Jiri’s post as the words he used have actual meaning, or just assumed he’s an narcissist, an idiot, or both to think “have you ever thought you might be wrong” is a meaningful thing to ask. I think the vast majority of people in the world understand that the possibility of them being wrong exists on any given subject. But maybe you’ve just chosen to dispel that information instead of re-evaluating your challenge. A poor reaction from you, I think. Or something.

you are assuming I didn't re-evaluate.
I have read a lot about this signing and the people involved. The new information that has come out doesn't lead me to change my stance.
Don't make assumptions about how people arrived at their conclusions. Just because we arrived at different places, doesn't mean that I didn't look at the new information.
I did.
To me it reinforces that this guy should not have been signed. I see nothing that would cause me to change my view.
