Man, this team is playing like it has just completed a punishing road trip - yet hasn’t even been out of the province.
But here we are, heading out on the road where something needs to click on the top line - otherwise there is a good chance we’re in for a long and frustrating regular season.
If it doesn’t change, I don’t know what Sutter can do to improve the situation. Secondary scoring will cover the cracks in short bursts, but is unsustainable if you’re relying on that to get you to the play-offs.

It was also clearly a penalty. You put your stick in a guy’s skates it’s on you if we falls, even if it was soft.

Can’t believe we’re just in early November and the Flames may be dressing their #9 defenceman. That’s not good.
The team looks completely out of synch right now. They’re basically being carried by Kadri. If they hadn’t signed him I’d hate to think what their record would be now.

“Maybe it’s slightly easier to win at home”?
How about ”It is definitely easier to win at home”.
In the NHL, the home team wins 59% of games, the away team 41%.
An average team playing all of its games at home is a likely playoff team. An average team playing all of its games on the road is a lottery team, being the difference between 97 and 67 points.

Why are refs such wiennies FFS?
Give Lucic the unsportsmanlike and move on. Instead they plot to ruin the game for the team Lucic plays for? Grow up, your supposed to be a professional.

I don't think Darryl has done a very good job this season. It's almost like he's gone Glen Gulutzan. Team looks really bad and a lot of questionable decision making by the coach with line deployment and ice time for certain players. If Darryl doesn't get his act together, hard to imagine the players will.

Great coaches and players find a way to do it over multiple seasons. I think Darryl is our best shot at turning it around even though he has been trying to find his groove. There is no solution to lack of depth on D though. The combination of dmen out and our offence drying up has everyone trying to do too much. Got to go back to sticking to your roles, keeping it simple and playing hard north south hockey.

Back ref also made the crosschecking call against Hanifin earlier. Not the guy 10 feet away who had the direct view.

It was indeed soft. Sutter should have made that case, suggested a dive and maybe the refs look for that instead of punishing the Flames.
That said, the ref wasn’t very professional either - he was yelling at Lucic to sit the F down.

Huberdeau may have not had a great game (I didn’t think he was horrible) but Francis decided to be Francis and use a nice thing he did to insult him:

Tough to see the team start so well and fizzle down the stretch of this road trip where they should have closed it out with 3 wins. I wasn’t sure if the move in real time but in hindsight picking Mackey over Valimaki was a bad call. One guy is someone the organization invested a 1st round pick and the other was a college free agent signing older than 3 of our top 4 D from last season.
Huberdeau wanting to do it all has rendered him mediocre so far. Having all these games at home so early only added to the pressure to get off to a hot start.
The Flames were 15-15 after Sutter took over in 2021 so it took him 30 games and an offseason to figure out how to best use his top players. I don’t think many expected the Flames to be amazing due to all the changes but after 5-1 it looked possible so to see them stink it up this past week has been frustrating
I am disappointed in the team right now but still believe they will figure it out.

Mackie is not an NHL player. That game was a disaster from him.

Underrated comment. For reals.
Even when they were winning, they were giving up the middle of the ice way too easily, especially in their own zone.
I don’t know if this is due to players still learning “the system”, a lack of team speed, lack of attention to detail, or some combination of everything.
Whatever the case, they need to correct it. Far too many Grade A+ chances from right in front of net.

Its a case of the top players for the Flames are just flat out playing really poor.
They are not generating offense, once the powerplay stopped generating goals the team is now struggling
Great too see the Flames goalie play like a star
Not sure, why the top players look so lost.....

Add in that his post just before that was that no one wanted to cover the slot.

No "might" about it.
Markstrom was terrific and not one of those goals were bad.
