If I assume that the people who get annoyed by the pronunciation of it also don't know how it's supposed to be pronounced from its originating culture, is the annoyance of the pronunciation because these people feel that too many non-western things are entering into the conversation in the west? Said in another way, if it comes out that Singh indeed did consult with Kadri or someone else in the know and the pronunciation he uses is in fact correct, would these people still be annoyed? Why?

I'm annoyed because no one else pronounces it that way, but if it came out that that's how Kadri wants it pronounced then that's how I would pronounce it and expect others play by play to do the same. Like how Gio had the pronunciation of his name corrected.
But no, you're morally superior. I get it.

I never said I was. I appreciate the other part of your response though and it makes sense.
Singh said Kadri normally the first couple games, then randomly decided to throw up the accent. It's annoying.
Why do you think it was random?
I think it is a nice nod to the diversity that Kadri and Singh represent in the NHL. Even if his pronunciation is wrong, one is left to wonder why it would even bother anyone? Unless Kadri himself would prefer otherwise, why does it matter? On the other hand, Singh's pronunciation draws subtle attention to Kadri's cultural distinction, and I have to think based on what we have seen from him that he is pretty okay with that.

I hate it when people pronounce certain words with accents. When someone throws out a single word with an accent, it sounds forced and pretentious. Croissant, mascarpone, poutine… not just food but that’s what came to mind. I guess geographical locations too idk
With the Kadri thing, it just seems out of place. I won’t lose sleep over it though.

Jesus this may be one of calgarypucks worst days overall
Terrible. Let people with cultural affiliations pronounce things how they want. Should be the last of your worries. If an announcer uses the French pronunciation of a Canadian player is it going to bother you? Get your heads out of your asses

Kadri clarified it in his signing pressers .. evidently you didn't tune in for that . spoiler .. it's not how Singh pronounces it . why would Kadri tell Singh to pronounce it differently than he told every one else to when he was asked .. unless this is some practical joke they cooked up together, in which case , bravo

He was likely dumbing it down for the general population. Would it be surprising to you if it were pronounced differently elsewhere? Lol!!
