Users that were on the META team at Twitter are reporting the whole team has been let go. Which is interesting since that team was about finding biases and harms in Twitter's algorithms and investigating tech's harmful impact on society. Kind of what Musk was complaining about.

No one should begrudge Musk doing what he thinks is necessary to get Twitter profitable, but we definitely can criticize moves that don't look like they'll help or may hurt his goals, or that seemingly contradict his past stated goals.

I would pay $8/month for Twitter if verification gave us the following things:
- Ability to edit tweets
- Hide ads
- Remove suggested tweets, account, people other people follow, etc.
- Schedule tweets natively
- See specifically what accounts clicked on your links, viewed your profile
- Hide the verification badge because it would be embarrassing for people to know I paid for Twitter.

Yeah, I agree. Also, this has happened already to Calgarypuck as well. However, I still like coming and seeing different opinions than mine but there has been a (very) noticeable drop off of once prominent posters that I tended to agree with usually.

This seems like the type of thing he should be doing(leave the blue check as is). Have a free Twitter with limited usability, and if you want more, you pay for it.

There's been tons of posters that no longer post here. I don't think Yoho is the litmus test for whether or not CP has turned into one giant circle jerk of group think. If you wanna come read what left leaning people are thinking and believe (and I do, obviously), this is a really great site.

Personally, it is the "thanks" feature that started the decline for this place and started to build up basically like a weird bullying mob mentality.

To me Twitter is good at getting links to a wide variety of content by following a wide selection of people. Sure you can self censor and just follow those who agree with you but I find of all the social media sites it’s the easiest to escape your bubble and follow people you disagree with. I don’t read comments or participate I use it as a newsfeed.
I agree that a lot of sub-Redits are echo chambers. I try to follow the moderate ones, regularly look at r/popular or what's trending, and sometimes look to the dark side, like r/conservative.

I've never got into Twitter. So I don't know how it works. I thought you just followed people/companies. I sometimes google my favourite food truck to see where and when they are out, but that's it.

It is important to seek information sources other than say cbc.ca/news, which is where I get most of my news from. So I am always looking elsewhere.

I dunno, I don't miss a bunch of posts quoting a post and saying "this."

Forums are just dying in general. Its not a CP specific issue or political issue. Very few new users so the normal churn isn't replaced. Social media replaced forums.

Well jokes on Musk.

I've never needed twitter for hockey updates.

That's what SureLoss's algorithm is for.

Yeah, no doubt. I'm sure they'd get treated similarly to how "Super Followers" get treated now. I've never NOT seen a Super Follower getting dragged in their replies.

So called "bullying" was way more fun when "Rate this thread" was active

I would assume anyone who went through Day 1 Orientation at a tech company would know this is absolutely moronic.

EDIT: Looks like the tweet author just got bullied off Twitter. Here's the original tweet:

Guess it's time to start moving to Mastodon
