All of our "bottom 6" have been solid given that they're supposed to be bottom six. Backlund, coleman, lucic, Lewis, ritchie and Rooney have all been good given their roles.
The only two that should be playing up are backlund and coleman.
I was actually impressed with lucic and his impact tonight but he shouldn't be getting top 6 minutes.
Toffoli had a solid night and . Not sure why they are keeping both right shots paired together.
Huberdeau and lindholm are struggling and are anchoring down whatever lines they're on.
Give this I would try
Huberdeau - lindholm - mang/dube
Mang/dube - kadri - toffoli
Lewis/lucic - backlund - coleman
Lewis/lucic - Rooney - ritchie
On d weegar has been pretty spotty. Alot of bad turnovers by him last couple games as he keeps trying to pass through the middle. Alot of bad turnovers by the flames in general.

Yeah sutter loves to give 4th line ozone starts and I don't get it.

At a certain point you have to graduate somebody.

And??? That's neat now do it again or better .My coaches and or bosses always have stressed this and I've always agreed. Anybody can do it once If your really that good you'll go out there repat that and do it multiple times.

At 5-2 it looked like the top line was struggling. But at least we were 5-2.
Now all the lines are struggling.
Sutter needs to go back to the lines that had us 5-2 and let the top line figure it out.

Pelletier was drafted in 2019. He is coming off a year where he was one of the very best players of his age group in the entire AHL.
He is also one of only five players from the 2019 first round who has yet to play in the NHL, and two of the other guys have been in college. There are significantly worse prospects who have already made the NHL over him.

Of course hope he is back next game, but if he's eventually.put on it's a lost chance trying Phillips or Zary who have been performing well in the AHL

That's not what you argued. You said "anybody can do it once", which is categorically false.

Love sutter, but I think he jumped the gun on the line shuffle.
Yes, getting Lindholm and huberdaeu going was important but the remaining 3 lines were highly effective. Curious if not changing up every line would have had better results (Ie. Shake up top 6 but leave bottom 6 in tact).
Unfortunately it seems every facet of the team has been affected (forwards, d, pp, pk)....

Is there any word on the nature of Tanev’s ‘upper body’ injury? I hope it’s not the surgically repaired shoulder.

Boys can't get out on the road fast enough. Thought this home stand would be good for them to get gelled and together, but apparently it backfired. Ugh.

Sutter sticking to his broken lines shouldn't be a surprise. He clearly needs a data set to work with. The first batch of line had what 6 games? This group of lines will likely see the same unless this absolute cratering continues next game.
I'd rather Sutter work this stuff out now than kind of get lost in the woods at the end of the year.
I don't really thing he cares as much where they get into the playoffs, so much as just getting in. So he likely thinks he has some time to work this out.
Gotta think Tree understands though that landing another top 6 winger is growing more important by the game. It's an extremely noticeable hole that's causing some real serious issues.
I love Lucic but the dude is a 4th liner plain and simple.
Honestly don't care if they call a kid up to give him a shot but just do it. Would prefer it to be Zary.

Ok, as I sit here feeling absolutely terrible with the first cold running through our house since COVID (which is probably unsurprisingly hitting us all harder than normal and sticking around longer than normal), I'm thinking it may not just be my house. These guys have been stuck at home for the first part of the season while all this crap is running through Calgary. So why suddenly does this team play slow with no energy, with uncharacteristic minutes for different lines and players, etc.? I can't help but wonder if they aren't working through a locker room bug / cold / flu, whatever. Why does Coleman play 11 minutes? He's sick maybe. Why are some bottom roster players getting more minutes? They're less sick possibly. Markstrom missed a game early on cuz he was sick. He was probably the first one down.
I mean, the whole team doesn't just suddenly forget what made them successful in the first five or six games. High energy, high pace. I say, give it a week for recovery (if my theory is correct) and even better, get them on the frickin' ROAD so they can live in a bubble for a while!

They look like a team that is battling some sick. Slow starts, listless play with the odd surge in energy and a coach juggling to try to prop up low energy guys with whoever is going to try to get through it.
Even the radio guys sound like they are hit by something. From what I can tell it is everywhere in town. My one kids team in Cochrane and the other in Okotoks have been decimated the last week.

When do the waivers expire? This would be a good time to call people up before they need waivers again. In a way I hope Tanev goes onto IR and they actually call up some of the top performing AHL players.
|
Wild post.
The road is good for focus. Have a wife and kids and obligations?
If they needed to go on waivers at the start of the year, they’ll need em again so what’s the difference.
Hoping for Tanev to IR? Next level yikes.
AHL players aren’t the answer. The long game is the answer.

I remember hearing a couple weeks ago on Flames radio that something was going through the team. Very plausible that it's still lingering.
