I love Sutter but...

I wish he would do more line matching instead of rolling lines. The 4th line is matched up with other teams first line way too often for my liking, even when they have last change at home. Even worse is when he has the 4th line and 3rd pair against the others teams top line, particularly in the defensive zone.

I wish he would adjust his strategy more often when things aren't working.

I prefer it when coaches don't use the media to send messages to players. Sometimes it works, but only so many times before you start losing the room.

While he may, in fact, be the smartest person in the room most of the time, some of his press conferences are a little off-putting. A reporter will ask a good question and Sutter will proceed to talk about something completely different while also talking down to the reporter. They're not all Eric Francis.

That said, I love Sutter.

He's going to do things his way. It is what it is, as you take the good with the bad with Darryl Sutter and the good usually far outweighs the bad. He's perfectly suited for the age of this roster. As said above at times I pull out my hair when he has the 4th line out against the opponents top pairing but you can't argue with last season's record.

I suggest we let Sutter do the managing. He's being paid to do it, has had lots of success at it and is closer to the situation that we are.

If he starts listening to us, he'll shortly be sitting in the stands with us, likely dancing with his son.

The high bar he sets for kids has meant that his most successful seasons come with kids on the roster.

This team is lacking youth right now and Sutter / Treliving should give somebody a shot.

I posted this in pre-season.

11-12 Kings: Doughty, Voynov, Clifford, Nolan, and King all started the season 22 and younger

13-14 Kings: Toffoli, Pearson, and Muzzin were all in their first or second full NHL season and added to the other young guys.

Sutter almost seems to have a blind spot to how he’s had most of his success. As of right now this teams youngest full time player is likely to be Dube is who 24 years old, no reason a guy like a Pelletier, Zary, Phillips, Gawdin (last year), etc didn’t deserve a longer look over guys like Eakin, Milano, or Ritchie.

Not even about making the team, just give them some ice time with the NHL squad.
I still think that this team would take off if they would have given' one of Pelletier, Zary, or Phillips an actual shot to find some chemistry in a top 9 role.

Pelletier and Phillips are just a proven at the NHL / AHL level than any of Kobasew, Lombardi, Toffoli, or Pearson were when Sutter gave them a shot.

This was a topic of conversation on Barn Burner. Rhett thinks he is too biased towards vets, and they discussed Pelletier Phillips etc. They say many of the same things we've been saying since preseason. Roster looks to have one too many fourth liners.

Dube needs to find some finish. He is like Lombardi, all speed and not much finish.

Why is the conversation limited to only Phillips (my hot take from camp is he didn't look close to ready) and Pelletier (looked like a deer caught in headlights at camp)?

Zary was the clearest candidate to make the team over even two or three active roster players. I dont think I am carrying a bias here but they have a player ready right now for the 3rd line and he's not in because "his contract flexibility and its an ELC keept him down" according to Sutter.

Given the information we all have, Zary is the clear 1st call up, or at least should be. If it was earned and not given.

I love Sutter but I didn’t like his over reliance on Markstrom last season. We were running away with the division so I didn’t think it necessary.

It would appear he listened to my concern and has declared Vladar will be playing considerably more this season.

I guess my other wish is that he would go 98-0-0.

But are Pelletier and Phillips better than the fourth liners...? As much as we'd like them to be, I'm not convinced.

Same coach as last year. Some of the players are different though.

2-5 in the AHL says no they aren't better than Ritchie right now

It’s their fault Oscar Dansk is 0-3 with a .823 save percentage?

9 points in 7 games for Phillips is pretty good.

What was the excuse for not calling somebody up last year when the team was first in the league? Why did we go spend picks on Toffoli and Jarnkrok before giving a farm player a look?

Sutter has forgotten how he’s had success in this league and has become fixated on veterans

I'm certainly glad the Flames have Toffoli right now considering he has been their best forward
