It's sad, but the biggest problem seems to be Sutter. Playing fourth liners up in the line up and no chance for the young guys.
Team looks rudderless.

We are less than ten games in. The only young player who showed up in games during the preseason was Zary. I can see why they aren't chomping at the bit to put a kid in. They might still have to but I get it.

maybe awarding the C at the start of the season could have done them some good . looks like a team that could benefit from leadership
pretty shocked that lucic looks like a top candidate for that honour of all players

When the team is slumping Lucic is always the one pushing hardest to break out.

You mean the 2-5 Wranglers? probably won't save the 5-4 NHL team
Sutter is playing the guys that are actually playing hard out there...its a lose the battle win the war type thing he is trying to establish a standard

Honestly Phillips did too, he was their best player in their road game in Seattle against a mostly NHL lineup and didn’t get another look. He earned a look with the NHL group in camp and never got it.
9 points in 7 games for what has been a struggling Wranglers team is decent too.

The 2–5 Wranglers are coming off a year where they went to the fourth round of the AHL playoffs. There are some very, very good players on that team, including guys the Flames drafted in the first round with hopes that they would develop into NHL forwards.
The Flames are the only team in the entire NHL whose draft picks since 2018 have yet to play a single NHL game. It used to be them and Boston but now Jakub Lauko is in the league.
At a certain point you have to graduate somebody.

Disagree, Kadri was better with Mangi and Dube than he has been with Huberdeau and Toffoli. He thrives with linemates who play with pace. He’s a poor match with Huberdeau and with Toffoli. And Lucic doesn’t have the skills to play up the lineup. And if Sutter wants to get Huberdeau going, maybe he should put the “best passer” the Flames have ever had on the ice when the team is down 2 goals in the last 3 minutes instead of Kevin bloody Rooney.

Zary has been excellent. His goaltenders have struggled.
Phillips has been great. Pelletier certainly isn't a lost cause.
There are talented guys down there. Confidence is also a huge thing. Right now I'm sure a few of them think they don't really have a path to the NHL. But when Lucic is getting top-six minutes and Ritchie is on the PP, there's room to roll the dice on some young talent.

Ritchie and Lucic have been two of the Flames best players
Ritchie has 3 goals and 2 assists...there is a reason he is getting ice time

Ritchie has been great, I agree. There's also absolutely no universe where he should be on the power play. That's not his role and I'm glad that experiment seems to be over.
Lucic has been atrocious. It doesn't matter what your role is when you're a forward who hasn't scored a goal with your stick in 68 games. It's beyond absurd that he's playing as much as he is right now. It doesn't do him justice and it's to the detriment of the team.

Lucic was the best of the top 6, maybe even the top 9 in the first half of this game. That's not saying anything bad about him or Sutter; it's about the other players and their play.

wait so those of us pining for youth might not be out to lunch or forcing a narrative? that's nice to know
at this rate Phillips is going to be in and out of the organization without so much as a look on an nhl top 6 .. would have been nice to see what we have there in case there was an answer in our system . I doubt we even get an answer to that though .. no instead we get .... lucic and Ritchie!

Ritchie and Lewis don’t have to come out of the lineup. Take out Rooney or Ruzicka
Huberdeau-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Dube - Kadri - Toffoli
Coleman - Backlund - Phillips/Pelletier
Lucic - Lewis - Ritchie

The way Lucic and Ritchie have played this season are the last of the Flames problems...both guys are better than expected
Its the top end guys that have been below par

The players are one thing. Their deployment is another. Lucic being in a top-six role is just ridiculous. There's no getting around it.
