Yeah he didn't say "hes a worse contract than Nurse" like the guy on here
BIG difference
Played pretty poorly and still should have won easily

I agree Huberdeau has not been very good but I will give him more than 8 games to start getting worried. Honestly he and Weegar need a good 20 games to get going. They both have big contracts and huge adjustments in style of play.
I do suspect 960/Barnburner will start to question the lack of production and we will see his first run of scrutiny and adversity in a hockey hotbed.

The good news is that a big part of having success in the NHL is being consistent. I thought the entire team was consistently bad across the board, so we're half way there.
It truly was a team loss.

They were dominating the game until the last 6 minutes or whatever. High danger chances were 11-3 at that point.

We need to find some line chemistry.
I would like to see:
Huberdeau-Lindholm-Mangiapane
Dube-Kadri-Toffoli
|
I would like to see:
Huberdeau - Kadri - Lindholm
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic? - Dube - Toffoli
I think Dube is ready to get a second chance down the middle, and reuniting our second line from last year makes sense - they played really well and were excellent in the playoffs as well

I think part of Huberdeau’s problem is he is deferring to his centres / line mates too much. Needs to play with the puck on his stick and he’s just not demanding the puck
|
That’s more of a by product of Huberdeau having a weak stick. That was one of the shocking things I remember seeing when I checked out some of his Florida games post-trade. He’s easily checked off pucks which is why he’s not the break out guy on the powerplay which means Kadri has to and I’m not sure if that’s his specialty.
I think everyone thought Huberdeau was going to be a Gaudreau clone because they both had 115 points, but their styles are very different. It appears Darryl will have to find the right mix that works for Huberdeau rather than other way around because I don’t think Huberdeau’s the type of player who is going to take the bull by the horns and put the team on his back. Kadri was that guy for a couple of weeks, but even he wasn’t going to be able to sustain that.

This is a good time to struggle a little, not too worried.
Maybe some people need to admit that Gaudreau and Tkachuk are great hockey players. We brought in some talent but replacing those two and the way they played last year is basically impossible.
You just have to start winning differently.

Well it's not like the Flames never lost a game with Tkachuk and Gaudreau either...they missed the playoffs as much as they made them.
You don't usually win with bad turnovers, penalties or .808 goaltending. Actually it's probably pretty rare.
This game was in the bag and they made some dumb mistakes

Being a fan since the team moved here from Atlanta and living through the huge ups and downs of the 80s and then the dark 90s, I gotta say folks, it’s very early. The criticisms are legitimate so far but maybe give the guys some time to gel. Huge upheaval this off season, big players out, new guys in. It might take more time than I thought for everything to come together.
This is a very good team. Huberdeau didn’t get 115 pts by accident playing with Sam Bennett and…whoever. He’ll come around and show he’s a huge asset, I’m sure. Kadri is kicking serious ass so far. Weegar is what he is, seems solid but prone to the occasional brain fart. Darryl knows what he’s doing. He’s trying different things to shake it up. He’ll figure it out. Give them a chance for Pete’s sake (whoever Pete is).

Almost like the team had major turnover in the offseason and has been stuck at home for a month. Sutter tried replicating game pace in practice but that 2 games in 9 days left them rusty. Many are freaking out but this team just needs a little time to get on a roll.

Lucic, Lindholm, Toffoli was the best line tonight IMO
Lucic was far from the Flames worst

regular games and getting in the road will do wonders for this group .. I'm positive of that
