Seemed like a pretty decent year for music. So whats the best album you bought this year?
I thought Nick Cave's latest was amazing. Close second was Drunken Lullabies by Flogging Molly.

Modest Mouse probably got the most spins in my CD player.

I'll second the Nick Cave one. Absolute genius.
Other ones that were in heavy rotation for me were Sufjan Stevens, Elliot Smith, Iron & Wine, the Arcade Fires, and the Scissor Sisters.

Randy Travis's new one from last month, "Passing Through," which is country/gospel. Very nice.

For me, probably Von Bondies - Pawn Shoppe Heart.
Although that is subject to change on a whim with me.

I would have to agree with Flogging Molly, except I like their newest album, within a mile of home, more than drunken lullabies. Close second for me is the new social distortion album..

The Faint, and their album Wet From Birth is absolutely genius. I also thought Franz Ferdinand's self-titled album was well done too.

Haha I meant their newest. It was pretty late for me when I typed that up, was feeling a little tired and stupid.

Great timing for this thread. I'm about to embark on my annual CD splurge. My favorite of 2004 was Modest Mouse, but I must admit that I bought only 3 or 4 CDs all year.
What type of music is Nick Cave?

Hard to explain.
Best explanation I can come up with for his new album is one half of it is wierd blues rock with a gospel choir thrown in and the other half is kind of acoustical ballad type songs.

Tupac- Loyal to The Game
even has Elton John on one of the tracks called "Ghetto Ghospel"
Biggie- Ready to Die (Remaster) with the DVD was really good too and I'd recommend it to anyone, also Kanye West- College Dropout should get some recognition too.

Religiously.
"Inspirational Journey" was released in 2000, and "Rise and Shine" in 2003. He had three nominations at the Gospel Music Awards in 2004.
The album I mentioned above has passing gospel references, hence the description "country/gospel."

Yeah, it seems like a 2003 LP, but...
Kanye West - College Dropout
...was easily the best hip hop LP of the past year, if not the last few years. I also really, really liked:
Foreign Exchange - Connected
That would be my #1a choice. Great album. A sonically charged, summer day kind of feeling to it.
