Ya, I don't mean it in that way, I get that we need immigration to support our system, and that it doesn't matter where people actually live for resource consumption. It's a global issue, and bringing more here doesn't really change the equation.

Immigration is great. I would love to see 100M Canadians. The problem is most Canadians seem to be philosophically opposed to the critical infrastructure and housing needed to capitalize on this massive growth in our population.

Ya, sure, more people fighting for our limited campgrounds and outdoor spaces, causing increased financial stress on our cities, fighting over limited water resources and energy supply. Sounds awesome!
I just don't see a benefit to more people other than maybe density creating more demand for sports and culture. Everything else about it is a negative. I travel a lot, and getting away from people when I get home is fantastic. I love to visit busy cities, but am also happy to come home. So what is the benefit?

If you think the current systems are starved, imagine what they'd be like if nearly half the adult population was retirement age. Based on current trends, Japan is expecting to have 80 65+ year olds for every 100 working-age residents within about 30 years. How do you even have a functional health care system with that kind of imbalance?

At some point, we've got to come around to making the decision between catastrophically high housing prices/some equity for some and anemic 0.7% GDP per capita growth.
They are both the cause of significant political pressure, but the latter issue is only going to grow in significance.

I hadn't heard previously that Mark Carney was angling to get into politics.
Is there any truth to that? On the surface he would seem like a pretty ideal leadership candidate.
