This is a different year and a different team. Choking in the playoffs means nothing now. The Flames changed their core. It's not like they just lost some third and fourth liners and replaced them with third and fourth liners.

The series is 1-1. It could easily be 2-0 Flames.

Yes the players have changed this year but same thing as usual in our stars don’t show up. Can’t really beat them consistently if only our third and fourth line get results. I’m not someone who’s panicking and saying never start Markstrom against them or do something crazy. But I just can’t buy in to the explanations bingo, text and others say because the results just haven’t lived up to it.
Well for starters I didn't discuss any other game in the last dozen etc between the two teams.

I discussed the Saturday night game.

They played well. They were the better team. They win that game 8/10 times they play it.

So what explanation? To me that's pretty much a fact followed by an estimate.

I'm not looking to explain last year's playoffs, I'm moving on. You don't have to though!

It's been TWO GAMES. The Flames won the first one in which their second line absolutely crushed the Oilers, and in the second game the whole team dominated the possession and shot-quality metrics, but didn't get the expected result. I would say that since the players changed, the results have not been "the same thing as usual."

Yeesh.

Hanifin put the first the goal in his own net. The second goal was a bit of a stinker, but if Markstrom doesn't come out McDavid gets that puck anyway and comes in all alone. The 3rd goal went off Hyman's skate.

Its not like the Oilers are some unstoppable juggernaut. Markstrom played well. Some bad bounces and they lost. Big whoop, it happens. Move along and kick some butt tonight.

I'm more concerned how this team plays in the playoffs versus one game against the Oilers in October. I love discussing the games all year, but no need to be overly concerned or mad about that game. Just a bump in the road.

LOL. you think if Markstrom stayed in his net and Mcdavid shot from there he would let it in??

.....Well maybe since it's Marky Mark vs the No Goods.

I'm more concerned that he is letting the Oilers live rent free in his head for the past 2 years.

If Markstrom had let the rim-around go, why on earth would McDumbass have taken the same shot? At that point the most dangerous player in the world has a completely clear, unimpeded path directly to the net, and all the time and space in the world to get there.

A quality take, as usual.

I don't see how it makes any difference one way or the other. If he had the opportunity to take the puck to the net, he would have. But he just took a hail Mary shot and it happened to go in, just like Ritchie's goal against CAR. He got lucky. That is all there is to this, and trying to blame Markstrom, or over-analyze the situation, is pretty pointless IMO.

And yet here we are, 3 days later

This is what happens with an overabundance of dumb posts, and you are the poster-boy. Eventually, in the face of persistent asininity, my cordial demeanor cracks.

He’s still only 25 with plenty of time to win multiple Cups and break records, he might even score 60 this year at this pace.

The Oilers suck, but they have a nuclear weapon they can deploy and it works most of the time, McDavid.

Without him, they are a bottom 5 team.

You keep saying 6 of 9 when it's also 6 of 10... obviously trying to be dramatic. They hold on last game and it's 5-5 in the last 10. Playoffs was a poor showing, last game was a coin flip with the Oilers getting the bounces. That's hockey. It's gameday, move on.

Uhhh no. I'm not saying he would have shot it from there. I'm saying he'd still get the puck and would walk in all alone. Goalies come out of their net to play the puck all the time. Just a bad outcome that time.
