Just get him another cup and let him retire on top rather than sign another two years.

Or... get him another cup, sign him for another 2 years, get him 2 more cups, and then let him retire.

Lucic has been grossly overpaid for years. He knows that. Now it’s time to give back. 2 x 800k max. Does he really think he’s more impactful than Gio?

I would wait and see how he's playing in the 2nd half of the season prior to committing any more money or term. He looked good in the first few months of last season as well only for his play to fall off in the 2nd half of the season. I just don't see the rush here as things are going to be tight when Weegar and Huberdeau's extensions kick in next season and the team may want to see how things go this season prior to making any more commitments.

Im not buying this at all.
Is TFP even reputable?
The Flames under BT are notorious for keeping their business in-house and that's when there are known negotiations going on.
Add to that how badly Lucic looked as last years games ramped up down the stretch and into the playoffs, there is little chance the team will be extending him until they see how he looks later this year when the game gets both faster and harder. There is quite literally no reason to commit to anything at this point.

The only way I would consider giving lucic a 2 year deal if it was league minimum . I like him but he is a 4th line player now. With the way that salary cap has squeezed out the 4th line players pay , there should be no reason you are signing 4th line players for more than league minimum and one year deals. Need to pinch the pennies for top 6 talent.

I would wait until the season is over, or close to it, as he had a poor second half last year.
In any event, no more than 1 year at a time, at no more than $1M.

Saw a comment yesterday that Lucic has gotten better every year he's here. Haven't looked at the stat line but I do recall last season where folks here were suggesting Lucic sit out every 2nd game or so as he was playing so poorly near the end of the season.
At his age, its a dangerous game giving him any more than a year and more than a million. If he won't take a 1 year deal, in the face of Michael Stone doing just that and being a great soldier, then thank him for his time and send him on his way.

Why wouldn't they just wait until after the season considering how badly he faded for like 50+ games last year? I like the guy, I just don't see the rush

On this list of what should be the Flames' priorities this must near the bottom of the list. Off season 1 year, league min?

He has been this season, Gio is also irrelevant...he could have got a bigger contract but wanted to play in his home town.
Not saying I would want to pay it but Lucic could probably get a surprisingly large short term contact on the market.

Lucic gets flack because of his contract but no one would complain if he was paid 1-1.5 million.
I like him and he plays his role well just don't want playing up the lineup.

Year-to-year at just above league minimum is fine. Anything above that in term or salary and you're asking for trouble. Lucic is a 4th liner and should be treated as such when it comes to contract negotiations.

It's way too early to be concerned and teams seem to always figure something out but looks to be a bit challenging from a cap perspective for the Flames. ~$1.8M with only 17 players signed. That's assuming the cap only goes up $1M. Signing Lucic doesn't really change that challenge, but I checked it out upon seeing this rumour and felt like sharing.
I like Lucic and think he's a glue guy in addition to still being effective at his role. For a low cap hit, I'd love to see him back.

Thing is Treliving seems to keep knocking off the priorities one by one. Eventually he will come down to stuff that isn’t a top priority.

This sounds like Lucic's agent trying to drum up a false market for him.
He will get a 1 year deal for about $1M at most if he were to hit UFA, thinking he could get 3 years is hilarious when you have guys who could still produce on PTOs or taking league minimum deals.

TFP is not reliable when it comes to the Flames. They were the ones stating Kadri to the Islanders is a done deal, they were saying the Flames were going to trade Johnny and sign Hall in 2020, they seemingly don’t get much right

Lucic has 1 goal in his last 60 NHL games. Let's all keep that in mind.. He's a passable fourth line player at this juncture of his career who likely provides more value off the ice these days.
He should absolutely be entertaining one year deals at under a million per season if he want's to keep his playing career alive.
