I would be in on this and even toss in a NMC at worst he would be a 13th forward at minimum salary providing veteran leadership and toughness. Personally I hope Looch ends his career here but at a very low cap hit
Lucic is valuable both for the things we see on the ice, and for the things we don't see behind the scenes. I was glad he wasn't sacrificed to fit in Kadri's contract. I would have no problem with a multi-year deal, as long as the price is right. He makes his teammates feel a few inches taller, even from the bench.

I hope they wait til later in the year.
He's playing well now, but tailed off a lot after a good start last season.
I'd like to see how the season goes for him.
It'd be a 35+ deal so I'd be extremely hesitant about going anything longer than one year, unless it's very cheap.
35+ contracts aren't the poison they used to be.
Old rule: the cap hit continues even if the player retires.
New rule: that only happens if the contract is front-loaded. If the salary stays the same for each year or increases from year to year, the cap hit ends if the player retires during the contract.
I'd be fine with giving Lucic a two-year contract at $1 million or less, provided it's not front-loaded.

Why are people worried about this? Want there a lot of complaints that Weegar would come in at 7-8 million on a shorter deal and then people freaked out it took so long. Then the news came on 6.25 million. I expect Trev to be smart just like he normally is with extensions.

Do you really need Lucic for his intimidation? This isn't a fighting league anymore.
It's not just about fighting though. He helps keep players from the other team honest so they're less likely to pull something dirty like when Gaudreau was slashed 20 times before breaking his finger. Players don't like getting hit by him either.
But there's other things he brings too like even more leadership. Obviously you don't give him a multi-million dollar contract but I have no problem bringing him back on a cheap contract.

Players throw in the towel when going back for the puck with Lucic on them...Flames have scored multiple goals because of it...assist or no assist he makes the play happen

Sutter's game plan involves wearing the other team down. Lucic is great at that. You can see opposition looking physically drained after a Lucic hit or board battle.

As long as hockey remains a contact sport, size, toughness, intimidation, and keeping opposing players honest will have a place in the game- even though fighting is way down from where it used to be. Like I said, having Looch in the lineup makes his teammates play much bigger. That's saying nothing about the leadership he brings to the room.
