Ruzicka looked good last season. Guess it was just a matter of time he slotted in

I was about to say that Rooney is a good skater who brings an added element of speed to the fourth line and ultimately the overall roster, but then you went on and said this...

Hah, yeah he was advertised as being a good skater. I see more speed from Lucic and Ritchie than he shows. Maybe he’s a really good skater but very selective when he uses it….

Sutter could not make it any more obvious putting Looch on that line, get us a top 9 winger Bradley.

I agree with Sutter's quote there. Chances are up. Not sure about finish though, I think it has more to do with quality - they are playing more like a couple years ago, where they are getting a lot of perimeter and lower quality shots, but not as many high danger shots.
They seem to be reluctant to go for the cross-seam setups, or to put it in front of the net. Everything is around the boards, or back to the point. Great for possession numbers, lousy for goal scoring.
Not too worried about it though - once the top line figures it out, the opportunities, and goals, will come

I've heard/read/seen multiple things from media and players about how deceptive Looch's speed is. Apparently he's actually a really fast skater, he just takes longer to get there.

He's like a big, heavy train... Takes a bit to get to top velocity but once it's there, not very much that'll stop it!

I think this is what some of us said in the PGT. We are relying a bit too much on volume of chances and not quality. And I’m sure Darryl’s definition of quality is a bit different than the one that gave Calgary a 14-7 edge.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Lucic has decent top speed, yes, but he's only required to reach that for a few shifts a night on the 4L. Now he'll be relied on more and recently that hasn't gone well. Lucic playing with Backlund in 2019 comes to mind.

We have had the shot volume, but it doesn't feel like we are getting to the net and creating in close chances like we did last season. A lot of our goals came from cross crease plays and guys going to the net.
The last time we really put the beating to a team was Game 7 vs Dallas and Game 1 vs Edmonton.
We need to be more dangerous from the circles on in and less reliant on passing from the half boards.

The team was a centre short, and Kadri was still out there in free agency looking for a bigger contract. Rooney is a vet who knows the game and can deliver on the fourth line without sulking.
I know Rooney's defensive metrics were bad last year, but I always take those numbers with a large grain of salt. It appears that most players have bad metrics when their team's defensive system is ‘Let the goalie handle it’. Consider the ups and downs of Erik Gudbranson.

I think this is true of the last three games, but in Games #1–4 of this season the Flames were creating tonnes of great chances off of numerous rushes, long stretches of extended zone time and cross-crease plays. They just need to get back to it, and I think getting on the road will help tremendously to do just that.

I really wanted these original lines to work with the hopes of the Flames being a team that could boast 2 1st lines and 2 1st pairs to combat their lack of franchise talent the Avs and Oilers have.
I don’t mind the team loading up like they did last year and have the two best wingers play with the best center. Kadri had more points in less games than Lindholm last year and is off to a far better start so should be given the top line spot. The Flames need to add a top 6 wing or swap Mangiapane and Toffoli again to balance the lines out a little more but for the short term to get Huberdeau going I really like it.

So as Sutter said they are generating more chances per game on average than we did last year, just not finishing as well. And bleeding more high danger as well which is the issue.
Considering they have played some tough teams so far as well that's not a bad sign. They also have a .988 PDO which is pretty poor (19th, last year they were 7th) and still are 5-2-0 with a .714 points percentage which is (3rd ) so that's promising too as they haven't really been "lucky" in terms of shooting / save percentage but have still gotten results.

What is a high danger chance? Inside the circles? The xGF looks about right maybe it's a lack of finish blinding the fact we are still generating.

Why not. He does more than the majority of the forwards.
