Honestly there was the one bad goal and then brutal puck luck on the other two. Move on and play out the season. Glad the BOA will be done early this year as these games are always infuriating.

We can critique Markstrom's play but 2 goals isn't enough to beat the Oilers. Your primary sources of offense can't be Ritchie and Stone

It doesn't matter if he didn't let in any bad goals. They knew they could score on him. That wasn't a Jake Oettinger type performance.

Markstrom sure gets the benefit of the doubt on these boards. When he has a good save percentage it's all him and not the team, when he has a bad save percentage it's all the team and not him.

The argument goes both ways. Every goal is a bad goal to some.
Quote:
He has been letting in lots of bad goals. This is not a one off for him. He's struggling. Unless we think a 903 save percentage is good enough.
|
The only other bad goal he let in was against Vegas. He's been pretty average so far but the amount of bad goals he's let in is highly overexaggerated.

The Flames have played the fewest games of any team (tied with STL and ARI)
They have 2 new players in the top 6, one on the top pair, and 3 on PP1
Every team they have faced so far is currently holding down a playoff spot except COL
They have out-shot every team, and are 5-2, despite being out-goalied in most of the games.
And people are freaking out.

Hate losing to the no goods. But, thank the gods we are done with them for the year before the new year.
Flames weren't going to win every game. And I think they knew they shot themselves in the foot last night.
I don't know what makes me angrier, the Fact McDavid is so good or the fact he's an Oiler because they sucked for decades and were gifted him.

I never said they were flawed.
I'm saying they had time to get the goal back because they're a good team but couldn't.
Like I said, I don't buy the "They were deflated and that's why they couldn't score another goal" argument.

A lazy play by a goaltender. A stupid pass by a defense man. A number one line that can't score 5 on 5. I'd change Tofolli & Dube.

Goalies are not always going to be able to knock that puck down behind the net. I thought Markstrom's bad play was when he got back in the net, he made himself small. Mental error that may have been due to him not seeing a lot of action in the third.

I thought Lindholm had his best game so far last night, and he had a couple chances - it's definitely a step in the right direction.
But either he or Toffoli has to start playing more down low, to help out Huberdeau. And he needs to be up ice on the rush more.

I think it only takes 45 wins to get into the playoffs but I'll gladly take 60!

yep, Oilers got the bounce and they didn't...Flames hit 4 posts including one late after it was 3-2. Couple near misses.
We would all like to sweep the Oilers every season but to expect it isn't realistic...move on. I'm looking forward to the Flames playing some different teams and having more regular games to get things building. They are already a week behind the rest of the league.

fake news, he was 100% hurt
he skated off gingerly, went to the room with the trainer, came back to test it out a bit, went back to the room with the trainer. Came back in the 2nd but missed 3 or 4 shifts.

We were always going to make the playoffs in this crap division, even if we didn't get Huberdeau or Kadri.
It's all about what we do in the playoffs, which I guess means we hope someone else takes out the Oilers....

It was a really bad play by markstrom, he goofed at the worst possible moment with mcdavid coming but really that type of gaffe could have led to a goal by anyone. Otherwise, we beat them this game imo.
I dont think markstrom is a weak goalie, but I do think there is something with his mind and the way he gets in his head re: the rivalry that really disadvantages him in the head to head. We should just continue to play vladar, who is also an excellent goalie, against them. Problem solved and markstrom can continue to be excellent against most other teams.
