That top line had one very good shift near the end of the game. I wouldn't mind blowing it up but you could finally see the potential there.

Decent enough game. Markstrom made more good saves than skinner did.

At the end of the day, oilers fans still have to live in edmonton so it’s still a win.

From a macro sense Markstrom terrifies me, I have serious doubts if he can lead a team to a Stanley Cup. The tendency to give up a soft one a game is super frustrating.

From a micro stand point, I have no doubt he will be stellar in the regular season and be just fine, maybe even a Vezina candidate again.

If he loses the next one to the Oil, whether thats by just playing bad or playing stellar and letting in his usual softy to them, I honestly have no idea what I'd do if we met them in the playoffs.

Flames played their C level game today, dominated the Oil, yet still found a way to lose because despite generating next to nothing in the first 10 minutes of the 3rd down 1, Markstrom handed them one.

Frustrating losing to that horse shoe team.

I kind of want to see:

Huberdeau-Lindholm-Dube
Mangiapane-Kadri - Toffoli

I think Lindholm and Toffoli are too similar in the offensive zone, both guys good at settling down in a soft spot and getting off a shot. But you need somebody to go to the net with speed to create that space.

Dube isn’t great with the puck on his stick at times but has great speed and drives the net recklessly. I think that would open up more space for Huberdeau and Lindholm to work. IMO Dube is very similar to both Bennett and Duclair who Huberdeau really clicked with.

I also think Kadri and Mangiapane could benefit from playing with more of a pure shooter like Toffoli.

it is disappointing and concerning that our number one goaltender seems completely rattled by our biggest rival

I don't know what his GSAA was but it felt like Markstrom made some pretty good saves. Need to score more than 2 to win most games. Offense needs to pick it up too. Plenty blame to go around. Teams 5-2...its one loss. Moving on.

I wonder if Huby would be better suited with a left shot at center or RW to feed.

Huberdeau was definitely hurt but it's a dumb question and a hilarious answer

Better team lost, better goalie won.
Not worried about our top line, they'll figure it out. Markstrom vs Edmonton however, is a long enough sample to be of serious concern.
Frankly, I don't expect it to get better.
The Flames path to success is avoiding Edmonton in the playoffs. Doesn't matter if we're the better team, I don't want this match up.

No doubt. They didn't really play all that well. You could tell the lay off hurt them, yet they still outplayed the Oilers.

The focus on Markstrom isn't just because of tonight, because he played pretty well, its due to his track record against the Oilers. He either plays really bad or plays good but gives up a weak one. He was the 2nd best goalie on the ice tonight.

It should be a concern.

think they would have had their offence rolling better if they had been playing games over the week like the Oilers had been

I'm really not concerned

I wouldn't call that being rattled by the Oilers though. When they got good chances he stopped them. The other two goals were a tip in from his own player and a fluke.

That was more trying to play the puck more than you should and paying for it. He might have got away with it if it was someone like Shore but not McDavid. I hope Sutter and Labarbara talk to him about that because too many hard dump ins get past him.

Didn’t show up? They were dominating the 3rd until that weak 2nd goal was let in. Oilers had nothing. What were you watching?
