Yeah sloppy third for sure. Move on.

Flames controlled play in the third too.

But Markstrom first makes the bad call to play the puck, and then just whiffs on that shot by McDavid.

That’s the game.

Eh. Tough loss but I wouldn’t dwell too much on it. Just move on to the next one

Two goals to show for 42 SOG... That's not going to happen too often. Flames ran into great goaltending tonight.

Letting him beat the flames to the puck on the winning goal is why we lost not markstrom. 6 missed calls in the 2nd, no slash on backlund breakaway. Typical oilers game ref helps early to keep it close long enough til they get lucky. Games vs oilers almost unwinable, you can't beat a team and the refs often.

Sorry guys, I tuned in at 2-1 with 10 minutes left, which is apparently when they were handing out Beach Balls at the dome.

Kept them to 5 shots in the third, Markstrom gives up 2 goals

One goalie made 40 saves. The other made 23. But it was a couple of “flukes” right?

Yes the Flames got unlucky but Skinner made all the saves he could. Markstrom didn’t. And now the “Flukes” play the difference.

I hate and shudder when he plays the puck. He is absolutely brutal in that regard.

Meh, whatever. You're not gonna win 'em all, and we're still a very impressive 5-2 to start the year. Flames were the better team for most of the night and the Oilers capitalized on a flukey bounce to take the lead. Not the end of the world by any means.

Markstrom with the one bad goal, but that didn't lose us the game. For the most part he was terrific in this game.

1st line really needs to get going if we're gonna be a Cup contender. They've been pretty quiet so far this season, and you have to wonder how many more games they're gonna be together before Sutter starts mixing things up.

I'm quite shocked to see how many are thinking Markstrom is basically finished as our #1 goalie. Sure he gave up a bad goal, but he's still a top 10 goalie in this league.

The Markstrom flub was a game changer for sure, but I can't be the only one worried that our soon-to-be 8 figure player isn't looking too impactful out there.

I think bumping Kadri up to line one might be the right move, as Dube and Mangiapane can drive the puck well enough that Lindholm wouldn't have to carry the mail on his own on line 2. But someone needs to drive the play on line 1 and Kadri seems best placed to do that.

Silly question (maybe)....

Was Lindholm a product of playing with Gaudreau/Tkachuk (like ppl said Mony was) or is he just getting used to new linemates?

This is on our "first" line being hot garbage.

Looks like both to me.

Our top line is looking like the lamest top line in the league and Markstrom should never play the Oilers again unless he goes back to Vancouver.

My observations:

- The Flames didn't play very good, had no rhythm, still outshot the Oilers badly
- It looked like they had a long lay off, nothing crisp, even on the PP
- Marky played strong but again he has to stop giving up the weak one
- The size of the horse shoe up that teams a$$ is so gigantic I just don't get it

On to the next

Honestly, this gets said too much. Top line needs to be better, plain and simple. I'm at the point where I would sacrifice some of this defensive depth for some offence.

Who are you talking to?
Everyone agrees the second goal was bad
But they also had two goals go off lucky deflections
Both things can be true
