The Watcher sucked us in after 2 episodes. We thought it was a good creepy series to get in the mood for Halloween, but show went downhill towards the end with preposterous plot twists.

Would not recommend.

It was good. My only pet peeve is the changes/additions made from the book which felt completely unnecessary and maybe even a little strange. It's always going to be a tall order turning a literary masterpiece into a feature film yes but I feel the changes made took away from the spirit of the message Remarque was trying to convey.

Now I gotta read the book again.

Well this is a little surprising.... Cavill out, Liam Hemsworth in for The Witcher. Easy speculation is because of a Superman feature or he has maybe gotten the Bond part, but could be anything- a role that requires a significant body change is certainly a possibility.

I'm quite surprised, Cavill didnt seem to have any interest in Superman any more and I'd be stunned that in the midst of cancelling everything and firing everyone that WB backed up the Brinks truck for him.

Not sure I'd watch a Hemsworth Witcher. I'll try it, but I don't know if I'll like it. Cavil was like, the perfect casting for that role.

Now I gotta read the book again.
It is still a stark ####ing reminder of what a nightmare WW1 would have been.

Yes it is.

I think what the book was trying to convey was the hopelessness of ever feeling normal again. The overall sense of dread of returning to a normal life after seeing what they've seen and functioning at the basic human level seemed an insurmountable endeavor for the characters in the book, all while experiencing that very thing that will forever change that.

I'm being super nit picky. It's just that it feels like the movie needed a title reminiscent of ww1, so the picked All Quiet on the Western Front. The similarities basically stopped there.

To give some context to what I'm getting at, here are movies that, off the top of me head, do the book justice in its adaptation:
American Psycho
Angela's Ashes
Jurassic Park

I thought it was good. Never read the book or saw the original movie so I have nothing the base it on. I thought it did a good job showing just how hopeless it would have been to be a part of it. I don't even think you need to see these guys not adjusting to civilian life after. You can clearly see that "going back home" would be impossible, and their chat at the latrine touched on that too.

Cavills manager, and maybe even agent, are the same as Dwayne Johnson's

So I'm guessing the push came from there, Johnson really wants a black adam/superman movie

I don't think Cavill ever really wanted to part ways with Superman. I think it was just a combination of a lack of vision and direction in the post Zack Snyder Snyderverse along with chaos at the top with the WB execs and as well as being an actor in high demand.

I just hope we don't get the Dwayne Johnsonverse. If he wants the RDJ role of star with a lot of pull, then okay sure, but with James Gunn and that other guy now at the helm hopefully DC has a bit of a clearer direction with some leadership at the top.

Wonder if this is why Cavill left

https://www.ign.com/articles/netflix...ormer-producer

Hes a huge fan if source material, campaigned for the role before it even started, based on his quote in that story, seems like he would be disillusioned by the writers wanting changes to the canon

It's been a long time since I've read it but I remember JAWS being a very good adaptation too. Cutting out things like
Spoiler!

The Hunt for Red October also did a great job taking that novel and slimming it down for the film form while keeping most of the beats intact.

I watched Mosul this weekend (lots of time while sitting home sick).

There were obviously some "hollywoodization" but what a star look at a nightmare of a situation.

####ing Mosul was a hell
