We may see the Oilers hide their starter against the Flames with the way Campbell got pulled against the Flames a few weeks ago, and the fact he gave up 5 in Chicago.

Yeah, I fully expect Skinner to start this game. Goalie controversy incoming.

I dont trust Markstrom at all against the oilers. He was horrendous in the playoff series and every game he played against them since he came to town. NO MARKSTROM. I think there is truth to the idea that the oilers get up for playing against him because of the way his free agency went.
Unpopular opinion im sure, but the past few games, their D structure hasn't looked great. At least not like it usually does. If they get sloppy, mcdingus is going to run over them.
I assume Skinner will start for the Oilers as he's been much better than Campbell. Has it been confirmed that Markstrom is starting? The issues with Markstrom starting is that not only does he have to overcome his demons, the Oilers clearly have a higher level of confidence facing him and it's a tough combination to overcome for the Flames. That said the Oilers aren't going anywhere and the Flames kind of have to let Markstrom work through this as long as he's the franchise goaltender. Hoping for the best but I don't like the Flames chances in this one.

I'd start Vladar, but not because it's against the Oilers. Sutter seemingly made a promise that he was going to get Vladar a game a week. He played well against them last time, so I'd just go with it. With that said, with only two games this week maybe he doubles up a week with Vladar in a heavier week later in the season.

Not so sure about that extra motivation. I think both teams are at their max and there's plenty to take personally between both sides.
I do believe that it's a mental hurdle for both goalie and team. I don't think it's random that Marky struggles against one team.
But the thing with that is it can change quickly. He plays them well for a couple games and it's just not a thing anymore.
It's also a team thing though. When the wonder twins are feeling it, the flames shrink. They stop taking space, they stop trusting one another to do their job, they stop being hounds. Game 1 was very encouraging.

If the Flames use the three 200 foot centers and an improved top four wisely (avoid fourth line and bottom pairing exposure), both Calgary goaltenders can be successful.
The Flames were money in the first and third against Pittsburgh, but got on their heels in the second.
Their numbers on this homestand have really slid defensively, that's the key to the game. I don't think it matters as much who starts, but may as well get the Markstorm vs Oilers game over with.

If the Flames bring that effort they'll get the two points tonight. I'm going with 3-2 for the Flames. I'm anticipating that the Flames are going to their defensive play round into form here with this extra practice time.

Well, that is just not true.
But, yes, an unsurprising overreaction from an expected source.

6-7 record since he came to the flames. 3 games which is looked like he played great. Lots of sub 900 SV and over 3 + GAA.
This isn't including playoffs...Stats look much worse then.
I count 14 games in that list in which Markstrom allowed at most two goals, and in one game recorded a shutout. Last year he was excellent in the Flames third game v. Edmonton. Your assertion is patently false.
