I hate how small halloween sized chocolate bars have gotten.

God bless those who are giving out full sized bars.

I've read a few stories where in the USA a few people have given the kids a choice of candy or a potato, and many choose the potato. That would be fun to do.

My neighbors poplar tree is really GMG.

I am constantly finding branches broken off of it in windstorms in my yard, though the two times they've caused damage he's repaired the damage without complaint.

I am dealing with offshoots popping up in my yard.

The roots are starting to destroy the fence.

Despite not having trees that drop leaves, I have to clean up 8-10 green bins worth of leaves from the thing every Fall.

Poplars are weeds and should be treated as such.

Have you discussed it with the neighbour? Twice I’ve had issues with a neighbour’s tree and we discussed it and he took immediate action. However, not all neighbours are as pleasant.

My brother in law had his own small logging company and he said exactly that. Poplars are weed trees and that 90% of them are dead and rotten on the inside. That's the reason for the red centres. He also said if you can find one that is not rotten it's a beautiful wood to work with.

Your neighbours tree may grind your gears, but you have a good neighbour.

Generally, if a tree or branch falls and damages property, the repair cost is on the property owner (or their insurance), not the owner of the tree. An exception is if the tree is damaged or unhealthy and the tree owner is made aware of this fact.

You do have the right to prune any branches that are over the property line, but could be liable for damages to the tree if it is done incorrectly. I’m not a lawyer, but that is what the internet told me when I trimmed back branches that were overhanging my deck and rubbing against the house.

Oh, yeah...he and his family are decent folk (they are off my back yard at an angle, so we don't socialize much). It's his TREE I have a problem with, and most of the problems I have with it are common to Poplars.

I've asked him if he has any plans to remove the tree totally (before I gave up on my Pine, that his Poplar ended up out-competing) and he doesn't, so...I just have to deal with it.

But it still GMG.

Man, trees are beautiful, provide us with shade, and clean air, and habitats for animals, and pretty much keep our urban environment from looking and feeling like a miserable hell hole. Bit of leaves and sticks is a small price to pay for experiencing the miracle of Mother Nature.

The leaves are great too. they provide shelter for beneficial insects, provide a thermal layer for plants and ultimately provide nutrients for the grass and soil.

Oh, I like trees quite a bit. This particular Poplar, I don't like. Its killed (via out competing) two Pines of mine that I had to remove, is causing ongoing problems and on top of everything else I dislike about the tree...I'd forgotten about the sticky little buds it drops all over the place, too. I worry that it's coming for my apple trees next.

A plant’s mission in life is to rob sustenance from every other plant in it’s vicinity then die so every other plant in it’s vicinity can feed off the rotting carcass.

Who is complaining about trees? Poplars are weeds.

Replace them with ash, maple, oak, elm, etc.

Yup, it's part of the reason I live in an older neighborhood... new neighborhoods are barren.

Just to be clear, your suburban exfil is not an urban environment. Carry on.

Zippered pockets on jackets or pants that open/close from top down. It does nothing to secure the contents unless the zipper is 100% closed. Whereas with bottom up any degree of zipped will help keep stuff in. If you have it half open you can get your hand in/unzip with one motion. Unzipping from the bottom sometimes needs two hands.

I can't think of any benefit to top-down (maybe it's slightly easier to close? but one of opening/closing will be a little easier than the other either way...) - what am I missing here?
