Exciting: I'm going to Arizona TOMORROW on a work trip to cover the Coyotes' opening homestand at Mullett Arena for Daily Faceoff!
I'll be there for four days and covering everything from the fan experience to the hockey to the pros and cons of NHL in a college arena ... it's going to be wild, I'm so excited, I've been waiting for this trip for months and it's finally happening!
Wouldn't be surprised if I have 10 different articles done by the end of the trip. Here are the first two:
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/dylan-g...t-game-at-asu/
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/tempe-c...rena-proposal/
Plus I'll share whatever photos I get here as well!
So excited.

Flames room isn't like the some new arenas but it doesn't deserve the heat it has taken...those saying the folding chairs and Ikea shelves in Arizona are better are just buying into the fake news started by Oiler fans on twitter. Flames room actually looks pretty close to a lot of teams.
Tampa managed okay

As somebody who is in Phoenix quite a bit and has a home there, I really hope they figure out this arena situation. Phoenix can be a good hockey market, I've been to a lot of games and despite the arenas terrible location, you do see the potential. I don't think people who haven't been understand how terrible the location of Gila River arena was.

It's all about demographics. The West Valley isn't where hockey fans are, culturally or financially. Same with corporate presence and sponsors
It's a fact. The new location is as central as you can get to ALL population centers in the valley and actually accessible to hockey fans during the week, even weekends it's practically a road trip from Gilbert/Chandler to Glendale even with the new 202 Loop South Mountain. It's just not worth going in the days of HD/4K broadcasting outside of a 1-2 time a year treat.
Counting down to November 29th...
4 WEEKS
Per Darren Dreger on Insider Trading yesterday - The NHL and Coyotes expect the vote to pass

Treliving made a good point too, when the room was taking a bunch of heat it was the middle of summer, it wasn't dressed up with any Flames stuff,it was mostly empty. All dressing rooms just look like big closets when there's nothing in them

Visiting teams will be happy to come in, get the W, and then leave for the next city. And I'm sure once the Annex is built, it will be nicer (and newer) than a lot of existing NHL arenas.
So while I appreciate it's fun to talk about it, the faux outrage isn't unnecessary.
Good luck Scorp!

On a somewhat related topic, it reminds me of when the moving truck with all of equipment for the Minnesota Wild caught on fire in 2009. There is a good article in the Athletic which came across my feed the other day (even though it's a few years old):
Quote:
‘Your truck is on fire’: An oral history of the Wild’s infamous equipment blaze and the mad scramble that followed
...
It created a frantic 17 hours for the Wild, their trainers and their players, many of whom lost most or all of their equipment.
Martin Havlat, Andrew Ebbett, Cal Clutterbuck, Antti Miettinen, John Scott and Nick Schultz lost everything.
Shane Hnidy lost everything … except two left skates. Mikko Koivu lost everything but his skates. James Sheppard lost everything but his mouthguard. Both goalies, Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding, had much of their gear destroyed.
Every stick was destroyed. All the pants. Medical supplies burned to a crisp. Sets of laundry disintegrated. Players lost personalized sets of protective equipment, like shot blockers and custom knee and foot braces.
News of the fire spread like, well … wildfire.
...
Schultz: At the morning skate, you just felt like a completely different player. Guys had bits and pieces kind of from everywhere trying to get their gear pieced together.
Proulx: Guys were wearing brand-new skates. Guys were wearing brand new gloves. One thing I can tell you, the guys may have said stuff to themselves, but there was never one word. Not one guy complained. It was unbelievable. That morning, when we got on the ice for that morning’s skate, it was incredible. It has all come together and we were on the ice. From that time, even the week or two after, nobody said, we never heard a word, of somebody bitching about something. And remember, this wasn’t just a one-game thing. Their equipment was destroyed. They had to break in new equipment for weeks. They just accepted it, it was an accident, and we moved on. Granted, we smelled like a campfire for at least two months, seriously. It was bad.

So yeah, changing in a crappy locker room... isn't that big of a deal IMO.

No. It is pretty straight-forward. It may not roll off the tongue, but it makes perfect sense.

It's from the Hartley era, so maybe it sounds better in French.

Hah. Totally reads as if it's a French quote that was put in Google translate and this is what they got so they just went with it.

I gotta admit Im cracking up a bit at my desk reading that gibberish quote on the wall. maybe they need to take a second pass at that. "It is more appropriate to try all the time as opposed to aCCepting mediocrity" lmao

I don't know what's worse, the temporary visiting "room" at Mullett or that Quote on the wall. My brain turns off even trying to understand that. How was it even painted??

I have to believe that "trade show" dressing room is better than whatever they had at McMahon for the Heritage Classic. Surely they can make due for a little while.
