Pavel Bure was always a guilty pleasure for me. He was on the Canucks but I loved watching him play. Mogilny I would also put in that guilty pleasure spot.

Ray Sheppard, always touted as the worst skater in the game, when he was in the game, but had a great nose for the net, including 52 goals in 92-93.

Sergei Makarov, I have a game used stick of his in my garage. It's cracked and all beat to #### from hacks and slashes.

Doug Crossman - how many people remember him, or the fact that he played in the 1987 Canada-Russia series? Was a really good defenseman for a while.

Go to a car meet and you'll see some guy that has lovingly cared for a 1976 Mercury Bobcat, and be able to chime off the history and specs on the car as if it was built yesterday. A car the world forgot.

People do care. I care about history, and my NHL fandom peaked in the 80's when I was a kid, and it's cool to share information about players some people may have never heard of that I got a chance to watch play live.

Imagine if we felt the same about music artists?
What do you mean and? It's pretty self explanatory. Recency bias exists so people will regularly overlook anything that happened before their generation.

It 100% applies to music. And cars. And PCs. You're proving my point. These things become niche over time.

You might care but most people don't, especially younger people. That's why these guys are forgotten.

Ian Turnbull I think fits this category - 628 GP and 440 points - most of it with the Leafs. But still not one of the "go to" names.

Also scored five goals on five shots in a game once.

Then move along and go buzzkill another thread that complies with only your view of the game. Based on the amount of older people in this thread that are reliving fond memories, I'd throw it back at you that your take is the bad one. It was never meant to be mainstream, hence 'unknowns' in the title.

all due respect to the incredible memories of posters here to pick out obscure players although it scares me when guys from the 60s and 70s are getting mentions

I don’t know what you’re problem is. I’m just commenting on why these guys are forgotten. God forbid we discuss anything. I’ll submit my future replies for your approval first. Jesus Christ. Talk about pissy.

I think the biggest one that will be forgotten from the current era is Nicklas Backstrom. Never talked about even now.

I haven't been away that long, but you seem more bitter than I remember you.

Al “Wild Thing” Iafrate. I still blame him for Leeman getting dumped on the Flames. If he hadn’t been doing the ummagumma with Leeman’s wife the Leafs may not have parted with Leeman. But they valued Iafrate’s slap shot more then Leeman’s whatever.

Most people don't care about hockey, period. Maybe we should shut down this whole forum.

Or maybe – and here's an idea – if a thread doesn't interest you, don't click on it. I'm sure there are other things you can do with your time besides complain that other people are having wrongfun.
