The only time I question someone's tattoo choice are when they are on their face. It makes me quietly reach for my axe, whilst maintaining eye contact.

The best defence against a bad guy with an axe is a good guy with an axe? Which are you?

I didn't get my first tattoo until I was 35. A year later I have no have three, but the big thing for me is keeping them in places I can cover (avec long sleeves) them if need be, ie in a work setting etc.

Back in the 80’s, before tattoos were commonplace, my banker was always fully buttoned up regardless of weather or casual dress days. When I got to know him better he confirmed that he was covered front, back, and both arms. Blew my mind.

My wife worked with a girl like this in her office.
Mid 20s, maybe 5 feet tall, 100 pounds tops? Always wearing long pants and turtlenecks.
Covered in tattoos from the bottom of her throat to the tips of her toes.
I couldnt believe it either.

I worked at Safeway in high school/university (late '90s/ early 2000s) and back then you could not show a tattoo, couldn't have piercings, shirt tucked in (they had just introduced the long sleeve brown shirts they wear today during my time). Seems things are totally different now, especially with tattoos/piercings.

Hiring problems. If you exclude anyone with visible tattoos or non-ear piercings, you're eliminating around half the available under 40 workforce.

Right. Which you likely wouldnt have if Unions had evolved from being ancient creatures from the 1930s.

I'm not fully tatted. I have one sleeve tattoo and nobody's ever said anything negative to me although I can see people's eyes focus on my arm a lot when talking. I do live in a neighborhood where we are by far the youngest household so maybe my neighbors are talking about me behind my back?

What about neck tattoos? When I see a young person with neck tattoos I always wonder about their future job prospects.

Sometimes you can't judge a book by its cover.
But then again, sometimes you can.

I work at a moderately prestigious engineering firm downtown and there's people in the office with hand and neck tattoos. I'd guess the majority of anti-tattoo hiring practices will be all gone in ~10 years.

Do you keep your more controversial ideas to yourself? I would have thought there would be a fairly low tolerance in most professional environments for conspiratorial thinking.

You'd be surprised probably at how many people are like him at companies like that.
We even have one running our province...

I am definitely prejudiced against facial tattoos and piercings. At least piercing can be forgiven and forgotten as soon as the hole heals.

In my experience most engineers think that they have access to secret knowledge other people wouldn't understand.
