I've said it before and I'll say it again, she knows she's unelectable next Spring so she's trying to ram as much libertarian garbage as she can through during her brief stay, including political reforms that would antagonize municipal politics, purposely destroy healthcare, and waste precious tax dollars on fights with Ottawa to stroke her red meat base.

I am just absolutely hoping any of those supposedly moderate Conservatives in her circus will break rank and not let any of this through, including Sawhaney, Aheer, Gottfried, Schulz, and yes even Kenney (just relying on his spite for Smith). Although none of them have shown a spine so far to stand up to Bus Boobs.

You folks are getting bamboozled by a schyster and it hurts to watch.

Aheer is out. Interesting choice of words about "I will not run for the UCP in the next election", hmmmmm.

Well that sucks. That party needed more people like Aheer, not less of them. Very interesting news though, that's for sure.

It’s true that Alberta’s COVID restrictions were lax compared to other parts of the country. However, what rules were imposed were viciously enforced — to a degree that proved alienating for much of my province, one that prides itself on respecting its citizens enough to allow them to make their own choices.
That Alberta became the place of jailed pastors and takedowns of teenage hockey players by cops on community ice rinks is no accident.

I have sat in on Zoom calls with crying gym owners speaking about how AHS Public Health officials came into their gyms backed by armed cops to check for “exertion levels.”
Lol. Right. This is re-writing history.

The problem with the restrictions isn't that they were enforced too heavily, it's that they weren't enforced at all — which led to resentment and conflict between the people following the restrictions and the people flagrantly flouting the rules.

Crap. One of the smart ones is bailing.

Hopefully she's got an Ace up her sleeve or something.

I have a tough time believing that she'd try to run in a riding that went UCP with 68.5% of the vote last time as an independent or for another party.

After her early exit in the leadership race, it isn't totally surprising.

Can't really expect those people to stay when the inmates are running the asylum. The top two candidates were Danielle Smith and Travis Toews, and Smith took it 53%-46%. That's still a majority of the party, ie: the sane are outnumbered.

Hopefully voters follow her, and not whatever nut job they find to run for the UCP in her place.

You really have to be an uneducated ignoramus fool of a voter to let the literal name of the party dictate who you vote for.

Yeah, National Socialism has been doing just fine all these years despite the name.

I'm not overly surprised that Aheer is breaking ties with the UCP. I figured she would be one of the first to leave based on the direction that the UCP is headed. I'm glad it is starting and hopefully a party like the Alberta Party can capitalize on this

They should assemble into a new party, maybe something like the Former United Conservative Caucus.

No, you need the NDP to capitalize in our first past the post system.

The Alberta Party is a joke. The NDP is already centrist, such that the AB party has no reason to exist except to siphon votes away from confused voters.

I think the more sane members of the current UCP leaving to join the Alberta Party or form a new right of centre party would be a terrible idea at this time. That sounds like a sure way to split votes and hand Danielle Smith a full term.

Nah, the NDP is already polling at half and no one is going to split off the NDP vote to vote for a maybe middle conservative party. At least likely not many will. Where that will likely steal votes are the "never-ndpers" who are still looking for a way to not vote for Smith. It takes away the United from UCP. They just become the Ultranationalist Conservative Party
