These types of stats are always a little misleading when the season is a week and a half old as every team has winning and losing streaks throughout the year, even the divisions winners. Every team "needs to play at a 100+ point pace for the rest of the season" to make the playoffs, if you factor in a 4-7 game losing streak, which almost every team has.

The more accurate statement is that they've had their losing streak and likely can't afford another.

Not every team has a 7 game losing streak and when you do it in the first 7 games the likelihood of not having another bad streak is very low. I think you would be hard pressed to find a team that lost their first 7 and made the playoffs.

Boudreau's ducks team from 6 years ago started 1-7-2 and won the division with 103 points

Shutout in 5 of first 10 games

They had an 18-1-1 run in feb/march

I would argue that if you are going have a losing streak, the beginning of the season is the best time to do it. And while 7 is a big one, teams have come back from worse losing streaks.

Now these are the Canucks though, and I never picked them for POs anyway. Their top end isn’t good enough and they aren’t deep enough to make up for it.

According to MoneyPuck, the Canucks have a 15.7% chance of making the playoffs.
They're donezo.

The Flames are at 87.7%.

Just another reason its hard for new posters to integrate around here, nevermind those of us who have been around 18 years and prefer to focus on on the Flames successes, rather than obsess on continual failures of TTUN.

Lol at the Canucks they lose again, this time 3-2 in reg time and were badly out shot, 39-16. Heck, they only had 3 shots in the 3rd period!
They lost any momentum they had when the Hurricanes scored 2 quick goals early in the third period.

The Knights beat the Leafs 3-1 on Phil Kessel's big night as he ties the iron man streak of 989 consecutive games. He had an assist on the first goal.

The Senators double up the Stars 4-2 and had a journey man goalie Magnus Hellberg in net. He made 29 saves.

The Capitals used their #2 goalie, Charlie Lindgren, in their 5-3 win. He earned the win as he made 38 saves, Devils out shot the Caps 41-22.

The Jets were flying in the 3rd period as they fired 21 shots on net in their 4-0 win. Hellebuyck makes 25 saves for the SHUTOUT. The only thing that went right for the Blues was their PK at 5/5.

What is in Campbell's soup for his pregame snack? He made 32 saves in the Oilers 6-3 win. The Penguins were brutal during the 2nd period, the Oilers out shot them 26-4.

It was the go-ahead goal.

It was going to be the series turning point, and no one can tell me differently.

The Penguins have struggled against the Oilers going back a few years now. They're just one of those teams—every team has one or two of those.

I wonder if it has something to do with how much more McHobo is determined to show up Crosby than vice-versa?

No it was a go ahead goal that most likely would have won the game for Calgary.

Exactly, they needed an 18-1-1 run to get to 100 points after their #### start. Canucks are not the Ducks of 6 years ago they are likely done.

Which is another way of saying... they'll need to play at a 100+ point pace the rest of the way (i.e. no more losing streaks)

You never even post about the Flames...not one hockey related Flames post this 4-1 season. Your rare hockey related posts are defending the Oilers honor in the OOT or telling people not to make fun of Katz's sex crimes.

Sorry I thought you were in fact an Oilers fan based on post history...my mistake I guess but based on history around here when posters only hockey posts are "I hate to say it but the Oilers sure look good" "just trying to be objective" they in fact don't hate to say it at all.

Anyway "why don't you marry them". Was in fact a joke about all the gushing about the mighty 3-3 Oilers...I don't actually think anyone will marry them. Glad we cleared that up.

Of course, yes. My point was that every playoff team plays at 100+ point pace if you take out a losing streak (which nearly every team in history has). Semantics I guess.

Just saying they had their losing streak, they can't have another one, but nearly every other team will have one as well, just not at the beginning.

13 teams last season played at a 100+ point pace including their losing streaks.

So most of the playoff teams. Look I'm not trying to defend the Canucks, they suck and would likely have missed the playoffs, early season losing streak or not. I was simply stating that nearly every playoff team goes on a losing streak every year, therefore putting a "must play at this point pace to make the playoffs" means less to me in the first week and half.

As you could just as easily say "every team must play at X pace minus the losing streak they will inevitably go on at some point".
