We're regulars for both those (he's really into dinosaurs!) Unfortunately the animatronic dinosaurs at the zoo are off for winter or we'd definitely do that. Tyrrell seems tough for a party scheduled to be 2.5 hours total occuring in 4 days. Eg, one of his friends has hockey right after and wed have to transport them all to Drumheller....

If I could transform into a dinosaur the good people of Mad Science Calgary would have a big problem right now.

I think this is probably what we'll need to do, although I'm not creative, it's super late notice and this is already a tough/busy week. We had a few supplementary dinosaur activities planned (spinosaurus pinata, dinosaurs in slime to dig out) and we might stretch those and add a few more things.
It sort of sucks because he missed out pretty significantly on parties for age 5/6 birthdays due to to covid rules, so we really wanted to make this one extra fun. Realistically we don't have too many more years before its "drop us off at the movies" for birthdays with his friends...

This one gets me every year. The city's green cart schedule goes to every other week, so Thursday is my last regular pickup. I've got about 5 bags of leaves, and probably another 5 more once I get to whatever dropped this weekend. Why do they cut back service at the one time of year we need it most?

Why do they cut the service anyway? Like I get that there’s less yard waste, but the same amount of food and other organic waste.

I think over winter is fine, once a month wouldn't even be an issue. It obviously saves them(us) a lot of money.

Totally guessing, but the amount of waste will drop now people aren't caring for yards.
Also, leaving a bag or 6 of food waste outside in the winter in Calgary doesn't stink.

I wish the black bin was every week. I'd rather that than blue bin every week.

I just find the green bin freezes solid over the winter. It’s gross.

Meh, Summer or Winter I only need the green bin picked up about once a month. It's just dog poo and grass clippings anyway

What do you do with your organic kitchen waste?

The city will have free drop off locations for leaves.
Not as convenient as pickup obviously but...
Call 311.

I am so confused.
We generate a good back or two a week.
Coffee grounds, apple cores, orange peels, broccoli stock, onions, meat off cuttings, green been ends, asparagus ends, various potato peelings.
What is your waste reduction secret?

I made chili at home the other day and yeah, for food waste, a few onion peels and a zucchini end, not even a fist size of stuff in total. Would take months to fill a bin at that rate
It's just two of us and the dogs, and the wife and I mostly eat at work now that I think about it. She came home this morning and had a granola bar. If I had a secret it's that we don't really have time to cook I guess, which is a shame because I love it

They used to, I didn't see the one at the usual place, and the city site doesn't list them anymore:

Yeah I believe the only drop off places now are that landfills will take them for free

The secret is to use your blue bin as a black bin, once the black bin fills up.
(kinda, sorta, half-joking - truth is 80% of the blue bin contents end up in the landfill anyways)
