if markstrom finds his mojo then I would be in for Kane . need the contender level goaltending to make a run , as we witnessed last spring . otherwise it doesn't matter what you do up front

Yup, and there's pretty much no chance tre gets him unless he already knows he will sign, and we wouldn't be able to without dumping salary

Treliving and Davidson meeting for dinner to discuss the matter:

Frank Seravalli was confused when the fan 960 asked him about it. His response was basically I don't know what you guys are talking about, this isn't a thing, Kane does not want to be traded yet, and if he did, Calgary is not even a team expected to be high on his list of destinations. sorry!
So it is a rumor!

A rumor is story or news based on something that can't be verified as truth.

Luckily our back-up looks like a contender level goaltender... I do think Markstrom settles in and returns to form though.

No, it isn't a rumour.

Rumour: ‘I hear that X is happening.’

Not rumour: ‘I think X would be a good idea.’

Button thinks Kane would be a fit for the Flames. That doesn't mean he, or anyone, thinks they are actually trying to acquire him. Seravalli says nobody is actually talking about that, and it's his business to know about such things.

There is nothing in Vladar's play which substantiates this.

Not saying he can't be, but he's never carried any kind of load which suggests he can carry a team into contender status.

I can't wait to read the article from some second rate "reporter" who is "hearing Kane rumors".... and this thread is the source

Still think Kane on this roster pushes the team over the top

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Kane
Mangiapane - Kadri - Toffoli
Coleman - Backlund - Dube
Lucic - Rooney - Ritchie/Lewis

Hanifin - Andersson
Weegar - Tanev
Zadorov - Stone
Mackey

Markstrom
Vladar

… please hockey gods, make this happen.

Who beats this lineup in 4 out of 7? Even if Kane is just here on a rental, how can you not pull the trigger if he's okay with coming to Calgary.

My line of thinking as well; landing Kane and having the lineup come together for a crack at the cup would be a dream come true. That lineup has all the ingredients needed to win it all and even though nothing can be guaranteed this would be a lineup that would be enviable heading into the playoffs.

That's my gut reaction too. I love the way he plays the game and he's the kind of talent and clutch player that could be huge in the playoffs, but I don't like what I've heard about him as a person based off of stories like that.

Maybe he has come a long way in personal development since those days, but if not I wouldn't want to cheer for him.

Could you imagine a line of Hubey - Kadri - Kane? It would just be a clinic on passing.

For anyone saying ‘he wouldn’t sign here’. We don’t want to sign him. This would be a pure rental as a last piece for a team making a cup run. I could see him waiving to come take one last crack at another cup before retirement for sure. Chicago’s a sinking ship and he’s not part of their future anyways.

I was extremely critical of him when he was younger - he very much came across as a total d-bag.

But he does seem to have grown up since. Not sure I'm ready to call him a model citizen or anything, but he has at least cleaned up his act somewhat.

Even if he isn't retiring (I doubt he is), I would suspect that he would be open to being a rental for a contender. He is going to be a UFA in the summer regardless, so might as well spend the spring with a legitimate shot at the cup (wherever he thinks that might be)

I imagine there’ll be a half dozen suitors. At well over a ppg of recent, he’d arguably be the best playoff rental available at the TDL, of the cap era.

Our main competition of recent years, have all been weakened.
Oilers, Avalanche, Lightning, Panthers..

It’s super early to evaluate the landscape but if you asked me today, I’d offer a decent package for Kane.

Really, we just have to allow the next 50 games to unfold.
