Marky got hung out to dry. Period. I don't want to hear any other analysis of that period other than these words;
"poor team defense"
It was brutal. Multiple high danger chances on unforced errors.

Flames got this. They're awake now. Sabers are in for a hard hard 40.

Sabres - .933 save percentage in period 1.
Flames - .727 save percentage in period 1.
That is the difference.

I wonder what Sutter is going to scream at the team about in between periods.
Sabres wide open in front of the net? Wide open in the slot? Breakaways? Missed defensive assignments? Or a combination of all of that?

Flames are still winning this if they can keep from imploding defensively. The Markstrom haters can #### off until he actually costs the team a goal today.

Yes, it requires very little thought.
Man shoot puck at goalie. Goalie not make save. Goalie bad.
It's boring.

If markstrom puts up a .92+ save percentage by the end of the game it probably won’t be his fault, but letting in every second shot is a good way to sewer the period

first three games flames won with a poor team save percentage while their opponent got significantly better numbers . seems this is the way they have to win . own the lions share of the chances and convert on just enough to win out on the score board .. at least until the top line gels and starts converting at even strength .. or until markstrom regains form

Yeah the Sabres have been looking good so far this year. They’ve really shifted the culture there post-Eichel and have a young, talented, likeable group of players

Weren't ready for Buffalo's speed, and everything broke down because of that.

We had chances and didn't score Buffalo goalie makes the saves. Markstrom being junk against can't make a big save. That's why you get paid all that money. Probably why management signed Vladar quickly.

You watched that period and can honestly say the only difference was the goaltending? I don't believe that for a second.

It's about quality, not quantity. Especially in the first period.
The only mistake he really made is he would have been better off not moving on the first goal. But if not for him the first shot would have went in anyway.

save percentage is a relevant stat over a reasonable sample size
It’s a poor way to judge the performance of a goalie in a period
What matters more is evaluating each goal
In this case the Flames gave up too many great chances
That’s the difference
