they're building up a big enough cast with all these newborns popping out that there will be plenty of characters to kill off for dramatic effect as we go . frying all of the greens at once wouldn't really serve to do much but nullify all the character building and guaranteed it would get critical backlash later for just "using shock for the sake of shock" . it goes to show that you just cannot please every one no matter with route you take . there will always be people comparing the creative decisions to got and if it cant inspire the same reaction it will be seen as underwhelming (when got was some of the best tv of all time and maybe is unfair to be seen as the bar for this show this early on)

Back to Game of Thronesian form, excellent.
There was a comment in this thread (or maybe the LOTR thread?) to the effect of: why do people who don't enjoy the show keep watching? It's because we're waiting for a grand payoff like this!

Off brand Littlefinger is the worst part of the show. I've seen more tact in a dumpster. He's as subtle as a floodlight. There is zero need for him to be there and less than zero need to have a scene of him jerking off to the queen's feet.

I mostly wanted to see them all fried becuase none of them are good characters. Maybe the son missing an eye. Could have had him survive to continue being a pest. I'm not convinced dollar store Joffrey is going to be interesting.

Missing eye guy = Aemond = going to have a big impact on the future of the series. But yeah, hard to side with any of the Greens in particular, and especially Criston Cole the psychopath who can just murder lords and other nobles at parties and the small council without any penalty for his behavior.

you have a point and i hope he isn't used as essentially a cheat code or easy tool to resolve issues when they write themselves into a corner . having a guy that is lurking very obviously and overseeing everything and can summon an assassination with a nod is something that can get old very fast especially if he is never challenged nor has any one to keep him in check . the foot fetish thing is fine .. at least it shows more dimensions to his character to show that he has a vice of his own

cole is the series biggest villain in my mind right now . easily the most unhinged character whose immunity from casual murdering makes him all the more enraging . i believe the actor even called the character a dirt bag

Absolutely agree, but as we know from Game of Thrones... it mostly pays off to be a top 3 swordsman of your era if you want to be a dirtbag.

Bold move to have no Matt Smith in the first episode with no Paddie Considine. Olivia Cooke did her best to lead to way but felt like this lacked acting gravitas.
I found it funny the first blows of the civil war were from the same side but this also felt like very minor stakes and I didn’t care who came out on top.
The ended was great even if it didn’t make a lot of sense. Kind of think I understand the character motivations.

Weakest part of the episode. She just murdered dozens of totally innocent people busting through the floor on her dragon, and then could prevent war… and choses not to?
Terrible writing.
Goes along with the foot fetish dude, and the child fighting ring. Not enough to have complex characters and motivations, they beat you over the head with “this guy is EVIL BAD!”

Is he? When he was named to the Kingsguard he was the only knight with combat experience. Haven’t there been two wars in the Stepstones since?

someone said it was to do with having lost her own children and then seeing alicent standing in front of her own prepared to be incinerated . probably a good chance she was meaning to finish them initially .. but again, not within her character . her dragon inadvertently trampling people probably wasn't front of mind but who knows how deeply the writers thought the scene out . you know you're welcome to jump off the train if you hate the writing that much

Two moments from this season are incredibly frustrating.
1. A simple misunderstanding with the dying Viserys speaking a few sentences about Aegon the Conqueror leads Alicent to think he is tasking her with putting her clearly troubled son on the throne and therefore plunging the lands into civil war and destruction
2. Not frying all the scheming greens at once in the Dragon Pit and saving said lands from years of war and destruction
None of this will end well, everybody will die. All the dragons will die. There is no happy ending for a story like this.

This wasn't in the script it just naturally happened and they left it in because it's such a great scene

Im confused why the knight twin helping Hightower went to help the Princess escape.
If those guys are serving Hightower, why would they help her?
Was that supposed to be a character turn of allegiance?
It's so hard to tell when the character isn't even explored yet. OMG! The guy we just saw and knew nothing about has switched sides!!
I am enjoying the show but too many of the characters are under developed and thin yet seemingly playing important roles. Littlefoot being the worst of them.

For the most part I’ve really enjoyed it. That particular scene broke immersion for me because it was so poor.

haha Littlefoot
right after Rhaenys gets jailbroken out of her room, they show a random burning building and a hooded figure leaving the scene. I assume this was Littlefoot taking care of the spy network as agreed upon? is there going to be a shadow war now between him and Weird Accent?

They did a bad job of explaining it in the episode, but on the "Inside the Episode" video on youtube afterwards, the director said that one of the Twins realized that he no longer wanted to help the Greens with their deception and decided to switch sides and help Rhaenys as a way to show he picked his side which is the Blacks.
