Chucky 2g 1a in his first two games as a Panther. Fitting in well.

In this particular chart, red is bad.

Need a bit more detail? Columbus is giving up 10-bell chances all over the place when Gudbranson is on the ice. Hard to tell if he's to blame, since the whole team is a defensive tire fire – 9 GA in two games. But he sure isn't helping.

Yeah, Gudbranson is a solid contributor to a team that has good structure and defensive acumen. On columbus he's a man on an island, with no hope for help.

I'll wait for a larger sample size to judge him there, but bad teams give up lots of chances, no matter who is on the ice.

Gudbranson has become the poster child to illustrate the importance of situation, linemates, and quality of competition, when it comes to stats for defensemen.

Awful-fantastic-hideously awful over 3 years, on 3 different teams.

Quite true. And this is why some analytics wonks think defensive defencemen are no good. They should be looking in the mirror and asking why their metrics for defensive play are no good. But spreadsheets don't have mirrors.

The analytics community does have blind spots, for sure. I appreciate the new information that they provide, even if imperfect. It's more interesting than X team needs to hit more to be better defensively or shoot more to be better offensively. Seeing stats, albeit imperfect, on which team has the puck more, directs more shots to the net, and has higher quality chances is fun for a fan to digest how the team is doing.

Oh, absolutely. But you know there are always a few guys who think their model is definitive, so if it doesn't match reality, reality is wrong.

Which is why I said ‘some analytics wonks’. Many of the analytics guys are quite frank and humble about the limitations of their metrics, and I appreciate that. Things have come a long way since the days when they thought PDO was a valid measurement.

Could say the same about Zadorov if he left instead/too.

Gudbranson would be an idiot though not to sign the deal he was offered. And most certainly from the various reports, there was a connection between him and JG in both ending up there, and possibly the reason why CLB signed him.

Reportedly, Valimaki still hasn't been able to play for Arizona due to US immigration paperwork issues.

I saw a #10 in grease briefly but wasn’t sure if he was still with them.

I miss Ryan, he was pretty good. Just hate him now though.

He isn't nearly as effective now as when he was a Flame, but he did effectively break up a couple of plays on the Oilers PK last night.

I believe he only played for like 2 and a half minutes ice time.

That was his PK ice time. He had just over 8 minutes of total ice time.

there is a time and a place for sure...I don't know the context here but there were many times he fired up the opposition as much as anything. If a team is basically throwing in the towel just let sleeping dogs lie.

After three games, Monahan is MTL’s top FO guy and tied for 10th in the NHL in FOWs (31-15, 67%).

Our top two are Lindholm (20-20, 50%) and Backlund (20-15, 57.1%).
