Each of the 32 teams plays three or four games against the seven other teams in its division, three games against the eight teams in the other division in its conference and two games against the 16 teams from the other conference.

Since there are seven other teams in the division, we can't play them all an equal number of times without making other changes to the schedule for non-div or non-conference opponents. Just so happens we're on a year with only 3 Oilers games.

I like this move by Sutter. Why rattle Marky's confidence for the season in Game 2. We have a capable backup who's shown he can step up in big games when called upon. Let the Oilers be distracted by this and shell Campbell for 3 or 4 in the first so they can use their "homegrown" talented backup Skinner.

I am good with Vladar starting. He looked good in the preseason and Marky has not had much luck with the Oilers. I hope we get a win with our new players factoring in heavily to send a message and plant a seed this new Flames team is going to be tougher to beat.

I like Vladdy starting, that will make Oiler fans even more salty after they get blown out tonight.

Of course you start the backup in an away game against a lame opponent. They used Markstrom for the opener against the champ.

A little late, Vladar should have started game 4 against the oilers last season.

He also carefully didn't indicate players picked outside of the first round, of which Calgary has many, and I'm not sure if Edmonton has any.

So, for all the consternation about Markstrom in the BOA, has anyone bothered to investigate how Campbell has fared? He has a middling 2-2 record in his last four games v. Calgary, a 3.24 GAA and a 0.887 SP dating back to 2019.
But, it gets worse: in his last two games v. Florida, Campbell has played 88 mins in which he has surrendered 2G and 5pts to Jonathan Huberdeau. When Toronto played Florida on 5 April he was called in to relieve an injured Erik Kallgren near the end of the 2nd period, with the Maple Leafs up 5-3. They lost that game after Huberdeau eviscerated Campbell, scoring two—including the game winner in OT, and assisting on the other two goals that Campbell allowed.

Vladar was hot in the preseason. He deserves to get a start early in the season rather than sitting for a week or more.
Markstrom has historically been weak against the Oilers. It wasn't just in the playoffs last season. I have no idea what the reasons are for that or if it is just a fluke, but this is exactly why teams have 2 goalies. Some goalies just play better under certain conditions.

The Oilers do have one player drafted out of the fourth round playing on their second pairing, but he was drafted by the Calgary Flames.
